    Hopes on shuttlers, Pandelela

Wei Sheng swings into action today at the Singapore Indoor Stadium and should have little difficulty in getting off to a winning start in the boys’ singles against Kevin Ghislain of the Seychelles in his opening Pool G match.

Wei Sheng must finish top of his group, which also includes Vietnam’s Nguyen Huynh Thong Thao and Emre Lale of Turkey, to make the quarter-finals.

Sonia too should cruise through her opening match against Mariana Ugalde of Mexico today in the girls’ Pool F ahead of meetings with Ebru Tunali of Turkey and Nigeria’s Fateema Azeez tomorrow.
The 32 players in both the boys’ and girls’ events are drawn into eight groups where only the group winners will advance to the knockout stage.

Wei Sheng and Sonia have high expectations to meet

“On paper, Wei Sheng may be facing India’s Saireneeth Bhamidipati for a place in the semi-finals,” Kim Tho said.

“He actually has a good chance to win and reach the medal rounds compared to the title favourites from South Korea, China and Thailand.

“Sonia should be up against the top Thai girl Taerattanachai Sapsiree if she reaches the quarter-finals.

“But if she clears the hurdle, her chances of winning a medal will be good.
“The quarter-finals will be where the actual battle starts and it is anybody’s game as competition at the junior level is always a close affair.”

LWS and Sonia will get to the QF easily. Sonia has an uphill task waiting in the QF though.

    I doubt he watched it.

Unless there was an equal unhappy reporter to publish it... i doubt he'd have his consistent source to grief about.

Unless he's being inconsistent of course ;)

From the Draw Procedure, it seems that Evert Sukamta will face:
QF - Kang Ji Wook [1]
    SF - either Hsieh Feng-Tse or H.S. Prannoy [3/4]

In the lower half: Huang Chao, Huang Yuxiang [3/4], Loh Wei Sheng [5/8], Pisit Poodchalat [5/8] or Flemming Quach appear to be the favorites for the QF berths.

Evert stands a chance of progressing far.

There's quota of 2 representatives in each field for both BS & GS.
In any case, the qualification is determined by the positions achieved in this year's AJC & WJC.

Both INA players qualified via the AJC. We originally thought that Riyanto Subagja also qualified for the YOG since he reached the QF of WJC, but somehow, BWF determined that he didn't manage to qualify eventually.

I think Evert stands a good chance of winning a medal since he avoided the big guns like Loh Wei Sheng or Huang Yuxiang before the Final. Kang Ji Wook is more of a Doubles player than Singles (in my opinion) and I think Evert's experience of playing in various Sirnas in the Adult Division should help him.

Meanwhile, Hsieh Feng-Tse had beaten H.S. Prannoy in the AJC this year but Prannoy avenged that loss in the WJC. Hsieh himself lost to Cai Ruqing who lost to Evert in the QF. So, I think Evert stands a good chance against either Hsieh or Prannoy.
