    Default Looking for a club

    Hi,

I have recently moved to Penrith Australia and I am looking for a badminton club. I have my own car so I am willing to travel. I played at a competitive standard in England including county games. I was hoping to find a league I can play in but whilst looking for a club I have found that Sydney don't have competitive leagues, is this the case? I really enjoy the game so would really like to find somewhere I can play. Can anyone help please?

    Thanks

Default Looking for a badminton club,

    Hi Nuttyjayne,

County players would be like state players in NSW. Not many of them in a city of 3.4 million and sometimes these good players would book a court and play amongst themselves to practice and maintain their playing standards.

The universities clubs such as UNSW and Uni of Sydney have more choices of players as well as a couple of suburban clubs with better players.

As you live in Penrith, the nearest are the ones near Parramatta, Hills Districts and Lidcombe.I don't think there is a badminton club in Penrith. This is so different to UK where even a small town like Stafford ( or was it Stone), I was able to play with very good players ( Dave Eddy comes to mind then) when I was at a Staffordshire uni and all those weekly inter club games with some many grades. There is no top league clubs like in UK around and most clubs here are badmintonl clubs for players to socialise and keep fit. There are interclubs tournaments but exist for lower B/c graders. The A graders just have to train by themselves.

Your best bet is to join any of the tournaments and play at Open/A level and pit yourself against some of the best players in town.

Should you need further assistance, perhaps I can direct you to some of the clubs with better players.
