Hi guys, I was playing against an adult recently and was doing a backhand serve to start, the adult claims my serve illegal because the racket head was above my waist, so i sort of agreed with him and switched and did a forehand serve. When i went home, i went on youtube and decided to watch a match between KKK and TBH vs CY and FH however, when i saw CY (Cai Yun), serve, the racket head was above his waist, so is it illegal? or is it just me? Thanks
I'm going to have a poke at this, I'm no expert btw. I remember hearing from 'watching youtube matches'...the birdie has to be struck below the lowest rib(rib cage).
alot of the professional players look like they are serving extremely high, especially mathias boe, it looks like his serve is almost at his chest
There's no such rule. The whole of the shuttle must be below your waist (which is defined in the Laws as an imaginary line level with the lowest part of your ribcage).
I don't think that's correct either. As I understand it, the shuttle must be struck below the third rib. Yes, I know, it's hard to count, but that's the rule I'm told. I was at the All England recently, and every serve looked very high to me.
SERVICE 9.1 In a correct service: 9.1.5 the whole shuttle shall be below the server's waist at the instant of being hit by the server's racket. The waist shall be considered to be an imaginary line round the body, level with the lowest part of the server's bottom rib;
