The Straits Times Apr 21, 2010 By Royston Sim MONTFORT Secondary School can now make the proud claim that this past decade of schools badminton has been all about them and no one else. The Hougang-based school added one more year to their nine-year reign in B Boys' badminton yesterday with a 3-1 win over Raffles Institution (RI) in the Pilot Pen Cup Schools National final at the Jurong East Sports Hall. After their victory, the Montfort players quickly changed into orange jerseys that read: 'Mr Tan, we are the champions - Montfort Giants,' which they promptly showed to principal Andrew Tan. Montfort took a 1-0 lead when Muhammad Asraf beat RI's Yu Kern Hong 18-21, 21-16, 21-11. Soon it was 2-0 as Jamie Wong and Michael Sianipar outplayed Chung Tze Herng and Ho Huin Kit 21-10, 21-14 in the doubles. Ong Cheng Yuen kept RI's hopes alive with his 21-15, 21-11 win over Ricky Alverino. But Montfort's Loh Kean Hean and Chay Jun Yang sealed the title with a 21-9, 21-13 win over Amir Irsyad Khan and Samuel Tan. 'We're very happy. All our hard work paid off,' Jun Yang said.
