Hi all, Just wanted to get some information from some more experienced users; Had to restring my racquet; decided to try out BG85 at 23lbs; after playing for 3 times (2hours each approx) I noticed fraying on the outside of the racquet Could this be due to improper stringing ? Bad String ? Or could it be due to a mis-hit ? I sometimes hit the shuttle near the top of the frame I knew BG85 was not as durable but I have only been playing with it for less than a week
i want to say its stringer error, as this has not really happened to me before. however, that is what happens to BG 80/ 85 as used.
I see I did not know they were that fragile :crying:; In the back of my mind I was wondering if it was due to a "kink" when stringing b/c is on both sides of the grommet; I'll have to go back to BG65
The coating on BG80/85 is unique (Vectran) and it does begin to separate from the core after a while, but for it to happen outside the frame like that is odd, since there's no impact in that area. I wouldn't call it a stringer error either, as the string there wouldn't have been clamped. All I can suggest is a) manufacturing defect; b) the stringer stressed the string without noticing before putting it in the frame.
I would like to say it is a stringers careless. It might not be error. But careless is def call for. Also, not just 2 places on the string is damaged. The string on the next grommet (center mark left) is also damaged. Sorry to see that.
It is not a error. I string for myself with BG80 and BG85. It is very common. After one month almost all the strings has that. I do smash hard, and I believe I am a good stringer. I found, it you play you string right after stringing. This could happen very quick. But if you wait a week, the problem would delay at least a month. Only BG80 and BG85 would do this, I don't found it at other strings.
The stringer never rotate ur grommet when restring? I usually ask my stringer (my team string tens of rackets there) to do that for us...
I can't see how it could be stringer error - how could stringer break them there? I can't see it being totally grommet damage either - the breakage would be from bottom up, so not visible until it breaks - these marks are from outside in
By rotate, did you really mean twist? Yes, it does happen specially to coated strings when the string is untowardly twisted while stringing, the coating gets dilapidated from the filaments.
thanks Thanks to all for the replies guys; I expected it not to last too long from what I read on the forum (maybe 3 months) but only after 3 sessions seemed a bit too fragile to start fraying I going to sum it up to potentially "old" string / maybe grommet issue (i'll check it when it breaks) / my bad playing Besides the fraying the racket plays fine; String has a nice feel I think I will give BG85 another try; but I will go to another stringing place Thanks Again
Another very real possibility - if it's been kept in a cold place for a long time the coating will become brittle. The locations (i.e. right when the string dives into the grommet) can't be a coincidence - these are pretty tight curves. Just goes to show that MP bumps should be universal - or Yonex should spend some money and do a grommetless system like the Babolat X-Feels...
When you pick your bird up with you racket on the side or top of the racket. If you rub the strings continuously on the ground voer and over again what do you think will happen? It's happened to me now I have fixed my problem. I just pick it up with my hand and it keeps the paint job on my ns9900 just shinier
