Default Hi from Lisbon - Portugal

    Hi everyone
My name is Filipe, 40, I am from Lisbon, Portugal.
I ve first met badminton our beloved game when I was a teenager in high school, at the time I was a tennis player since the age of 8. At that time I ve never became a badminton competition player but just a rec player together with some friends and without a coach guidance ... but even like that those moments were great!
I always liked racquet sports, but badminton since then became to me something special.
I had to stop all sport activity due to professional matters that took me to live in Africa, but 5 years ago (age 35) I restarted playing badminton and I hope it will last forever. I also became, for passion, an amateur stringer using my dear dropweight machine, stringing my own racquets and many others.
It's not easy to learn the correct techniques at the age of 35 and now at 40, but it is always worth to give a try, training and improving (even slowly improving).

BadmintonCentral forum is a remarkable source of information and it is very important to me to learn the technique and to know the opinions about the equipment, so I salut this forum creators, admins and all the users.

You will find lots of information regarding badminton (and not only) here.

Which club do you play in Lisbon and how many times you play in a week?

    Thanks ("obrigado")
I often read many posts of BC everytime I want to know something about badminton matters like racquets, strings and stringing and playing techniques and specially to find a way to perform the most difficult tasks (IMO they are backhands, hairpins and footwork).
I am a rec player and I play 4 times a week, 2hrs each time.
The club is ABC - Azambuja Badminton Club located 30 miles north of Lisbon.
We are a very small group (8 ppl) with different skill levels (and different ambitions, of course) but we all attend the tournaments and make our best.

You are welcome (De nada. Meu prazer!)
Azambuja - is it near the Carregado shopping?

Indeed there is lots of information regarding badminton here in BC. My opinion is, you don't have to worry so much on backhand as you will get a hang of it, most importantly is to have a good forehand clear. My experience is when you have a good forehand clear, it's easier to get to backhand. Footwork is another matter, but if you have agile feet you are halfway done - for footwork skills demo, you can find in Youtube as well, and I would suggest to watch the women singles. Try to read this thread on footwork skills - hope it's useful to you: http://www.badmintonforum.com/vb/sho...3&postcount=17

Great to hear back from you, hopefully one day will have the opportunity to play in your club.

    Hi Kun Li
The place I would choose to play near Alameda area in Lisbon is in the Olaias hi school (Olaias area).
10 mins walking from the nearest subway station and has a bus stop very close to the school s door.
There are 3 clubs training there (CPB: advanced, SIMPS intermediate, CBL elderly people who like to play doubles). They will restart next september.
I ll email you with more details.
    Bye

    Hi
Financial situation is bad, due to a state system too heavy and spending a lot. They main problem is this country not having a strong industrial sector and have a low productivity, therefore they have all the time to collect taxes in every corner. Here is no political courage to cut on public expenses and services. Economists forgive me for being a very simple analisys ... this is just my oppinion as a citizen.

    Hi viver
Yes Azambuja is near Carregado shopping (7-8 miles).
I have lots of video tutorials, but the practice makes perfect It is not easy at my age to learn fast the hardest techniques but I don t give up and at same time I try to have the more info I can (BC, tutorials, and viewing the pros games)

    Hi Bruce
I know a club that plays in Caxias, between Alges and Oeiras. The same club also plays in Lisbon and Oeiras. They use 3 facilities.
    The club name is SIMPS.
You may get more info on http://simps-badminton.blogspot.com/
