I think what he means is what qualities a player should have if he was to be the world number one. For me, it doesn't necessarily mean big titles, because I want to defend my favourite MS player of all time. Self-discipline, positive attitude and hard work with a combination of talent. For Lee Chong Wei, although probably not as talented as Lin Dan, his hard work makes up for it. Anyway, although I like KKK/TBH, I don't think they deserve to be WR#1 until they change their attitude. No, I don't want robots produced by the China camp with no fooling around but they should at least be self-disciplined.
I wasn't even sure what to say, if talking about talent etc why list the current world no 1. how about the number 2 or the past world no 1. ? aren't they all have the same attributes?
talent , hard work , passion , discipline , luck and lot more...basically its not easy to become world no 1 and even harder to maintain the ranking for long period of time
we are talking in general how it takes to become number 1 and of course we take the current ranking player/category to start off. it should be more or less the same if we compare the number 1 players in the last 5 years . in this thread hopefully, we can discover their road to success and maybe we learn a thing or two!
I know this got nothing to do with this thread, just find it funny to note that all the World No.1s, except the Mixed Doubles team were soundly beaten either in the semi-final or final (both Thomas and Uber Cups).
yes you are right, all down accept the world number 1 mixed double simply because there wasn't any mx dbl in tuc 2010!! lol

I strongly dis-agree with that part in bold. I CAN BE WORLD NO.1 TOO.. by going to every damm tourney and collect points.
You can go play every tourney, but you can't win it. That's the problem. I do acknowledge that LCW is the most winning player and this is what #1 ranked means in definition . But we also know who is the BEST men single badminton player. This is no secret.
but can you win most of them or at least make it to the semi/final? believe me a lot tried, burnt a big hole in their pockets just doing that...
Actually, if one wins enough matches (reaching the semis or the finals) w/o winning the title but shows up in each and every tourneys, then that person has a fairly goot shot at making it to number by raking in the most points!
The only problem is, with so much mileage, how long can that player continue to perform consistently at the semis and finals (w/o winning the title)?
Still... i don't think LCW 'deserves' to be world no.1 no point being no.1 when you can't deliver the most important things. AE 2010 and Swiss Open.. i really believes LD just took a walk and warm up for match competiveness. throw away AE cos he wants to help BCL gets points and what has he got to lose ? already claimed all the 'major' titles. didn't show his 'weapon'... unlike LCw...even BOASTED that he can counter LD with his so-called weapon in the media.. bah !! saw LD 'FORM' and match fitness differences in these 3 tourneys ??
