well, Sony made the 1st move. this system is expected to be adapted by Canon and Nikon soon. also, this will answer to 4/3 system by Pana & Olympus
I am waiting! micro 4/3 cameras are getting more and more popular. It has a cult folowing. One of my non-camera orientated friends asked me about upgrading to DLSR. I have asked them to look at micro 4/3 as I can know they are not the type to carry many heavy things with them.
ipad and iphone have no keyboard or viewfinder either but they both selling really well. This camera is for the new market users, it is not meant to replace film or DSLR.
Real convincing argument. The iPad doesn't even have a camera. Also, I don't really think a camera with interchangeable lenses is intended for first-time camera users...
hahaha, i'm 'ready' for your answer lah. u see, the next ipad WILL have a camera, that's why i lumped ipad with my statement. Sorry if my statment was too into the future for u. Apple is just milking off ipad newbies. I have seen the inside of ipad and it is camera ready when created in the factory. did i say 'first time camera users'???? i said new market users. come on now. I'm surprised u can't see the difference
Enough "whataboutery". Latent camera slot or no (I too read Engadget, stunning insight though!), an iPad and iPhone is not a dedicated photography device. Purchasers of those devices are aware that their money is going towards a versatile piece of technology and as such their money is spread between the different functions of it. These new cameras are solely cameras. The money you spend is 100% towards taking photos, and hopefully taking them well. In my view, photo taking is severely hampered by lack of a viewfinder, particularly outdoors. It's my main grievance with the Lumix LX3, which is otherwise a fantastic camera.
NEX3 and NEX5 are nice no doubt, but no direct buttons can be a pain. Check out TOP's field review. Shooting with or without a viewfinder is a different experience, to which some will adjust and some won't. For those that can't there is always an optional optical or electronic viewfinder, but in my humble opinion, it still does not detract anything from photo taking. Justin (GF1 owner).
Interesting, I wonder if Sony will come out with an adapter to mount their Alpha series lens on it... If they do I'll buy one since I have a Sony SLR but an Olympus EP1 as my little travel around camera....
Actually did some research on the adapters, seems like you lose auto-focus if you use an Alpha lens on it, that's a major nono for me anyways, the PEN doesn't lose autofocus if you use Olympus lens with the adapter...
http://www.dpreview.com/galleries/reviewsamples/albums/sony-e-16mm-f2-8-review-samples/slideshow Exclusive! Our samples gallery from a production version of Sony's E-mount 16mm F2.8 lens. Sony has made changes to the manufacturing process which it says will improve the quality and consistency of the lens. The company has allowed us to shoot with one of the first examples so we've gone out and shot a range of subjects at a range of apertures (including F2.8). As a prelude to our forthcoming review of the Sony NEX cameras and lenses, here is our review sample gallery for the 16mm F2.8 pancake lens.
i had a play with the nex3/5 in sony's mongkok showroom. its autofocus is miles ahead of nikon d700's liveview autofocus. d700 AF hunts very slowly, nex was fast and didn't hunt at all but sony's user interface was retarded. sony needs to learn UI from nikon and nikon needs to learn liveview AF speed from sony.
Personally, Minolta had the best UI starting with the dynax 600i (all knobs stuff). I bought the Dynax 7 exactly because of that. It's one of those camera that you can do 90% of all stuff before touching the manual. The fantastic well thought out UI was destroyed by Sony's later implementations. I never considered Sony in my digital adoption despite all my minolta lenses and accessories Had a test run with the Nex5 the other day. It's so tiny it made my E-P1 looks over weight. The UI is every as retarded as you said, but in my case, it may well be the user...
nah, sony UI really is retarded. i was trying to zoom in on liveview to check manual focus. on nikon it's simple - press the zoom in/out buttons to zoom in/out. on nex there was no zoom button and everything i tried would still give an error - can't zoom in to aid manual focus. stupid stupid sony UI!!!!
Oh wow.. you figured out how to set manual focus. I spent a good 15mins at Sony Style the other day and got nowhere near that...
