Ok the TC is over and the doubles pairs were failures. Is the coach to blame - most will blame squarely on the coach. I like to offer you a way to suggest why your orders could not be followed through.

Fairuz and Zakry came out focused - it was written on their serious faces. But it soon dawned on them that they could not carry the orders given to them. The opposition players were too fast and too powerful. Their own attacks did not have the sting in it. The smashes were non lethal and they could not sustain their smashes as the bodies are not strong and the arms lack the power. KKK-TBH are a bit better but still were overcomed by CAI-FU.

The Chinese is in another class with their physical fitness. Their smashes were lethal but most importantly, they are not like TBH smashes (one or two big smashes and he fades). KKK just did not have the energy at the end - with tired smashes going into the net. The Chinese were fast and dominantly, more powerful. In the 2nd game, they completely demoralised the Malaysians with their power play and speed.

Now Rexy, you can pretend that you could go on doing what you do but the results would be the same. Players can turn up (and I agree with someone who said the players are not that smart, and I sort of concur when I watched TBH answering some interview questions) and train like they do now. But very soon, the job would be on the line and don't cry wolf then.

So what do you need to do. You need to be brave to say we need a tough physical training program that looks at the development of the body - not just skills and strategies that you do so well. Without a proper physique, one cannot do anything even if the mind wants to. If you are not conversant, you should consult an expert and learn yourself to show that you can be a coach with knowledge and depth. It will enhance your authority but most importantly it will help the players to win.

BAM has got no clues. Yes, I agree some of the executives are runnning this organisation with their 'eyes closed' (in the worser sense). Do you enforce - yes you should or start looking for new pastures. Very soon, if we carry
on like this, your comfort zone would be encroached, if not already. Take a hint, and start to heed the above. The players are doing the easy bit (I can tell). Players hate to do hard work but physical training can be fun
with the right trainer.YOU MUST ENFORCE to make you look good !

Hoon Thien How needs be trained and tuned - his body size is gross and needs to be trimmed to get the best out of him. I liked his style in the TC. If we can shape him into a better physical body, he might do a lot of damage.

Fairuz and Zakry are overweight and they are going nowehere fast. Gym with a good trainer to tone their muscles is important. Else, I think we are kidding ourselves.

Half of the problem with Hafiz is his inability to recognise his fitness is a problem. By the time, he realises that, it is like the end of career for him.

If anyone is serrious about badminton, they should train their body to be in tip top shape. The problem with Malaysian sportsmen is that they grew up doing the sport they like but during their school days they were not taught physical training -- sure there is the PE class but those classes don't teach you anything beyond the squats and the pushups.

If we respect our body and train it well, it will reward us handsomely in sports. Today all top sportmen (in tennis and in basketball) go to the gym every day and be trained. Our sportsmen like TBH can go far if only they understand that but they don't. And it is really up to BAM to underscore the seriousness of that training for them. Gym work must be by a proper trainer who can hone in on the different muscles required by the badminton players. The Malaysian Sports Institute should conduct a program for this.

The professionalism of BAM must be to include all facets of physical deverlopment of the player - instead of turning up for badminton every day to hit the shuttles, players can opt for different days at the gym, especially the ones who are not as tuned as LCW (in fact, nobody except LCW is tuned physically in my opinion). It is like getting the fundamentals right before they can get to play.

u do know that nobody cept the Chinese team is that fit? cept maybe LYD but he's great not only because hes fast and young

the Chinese team level of internal competition is probably stronger than the whole world combined... hence players have no other choices

even if KKK/TBH stay as they are, they are by far the best pair in MAS and among the top pairs in the world so what is BAM gonna do? kick them out and have them become independent players and still kick ass?

ur not dealing with 10 year old kids, u cant force those things on people if they dont want to and if they really wanted to (like LCW) they would do it on their own... nobody likes working out for hours everyday

the best part amount badminton is that you can thrive on other things than pure physical fitness, the MAS pair has known their successes in the past due to KKK dominance at the net and TBH steep and fast smashes

In the TC, KKK tried playing Cai at the net and got destroyed and TBH cannot match Fu's smashes hence they could not keep up. MAS has never learned to adapt their play. LCW tried taking on LD by playing LD's game and tied to match his speed while KKK/TBH play very similar tactics than CY/FHF. To win you dont try to match your opponents' strengths, you develop your own and expose their weaknesses.

If u think physical is really what will save MAS, tell that to the 2 grandfather pairs in Denmark which are still owning.

as a final note, the players on the MAS team probably train more than most if not everyone in this forum can endure so people should really stop blaming players and coaches all the time (they might not be as good as China but without being MAS i appreciate their effort more than some of you Boleh fans do)

I think... China, Japan & Korea players are work very hard and are in tip top physical condition but Japan & Korea do not have the Big Pool of talent China has.

In terms of fitness level, I must say that CHN TC team members are physically fitter than Msia TC team. The most obviously proof is the match between CJ vs Simon. Both players did very well, esp Simon (he played one of his greatest matches), but in the rubber game, obviously Simon's fitness had caused him thrashed by the fitter CJ.

LCW is very physically fit... may be on the same par of CJ, if not better...

    Hafiz? sigh...

can't ppl just accept that MAS players are uncommitted and has no drive for success?
after winning 1 or 2 tournaments then get rewarded so much and beyond de limit.
look at datuk, heard he's driving a rm600k sports car. do u see taufik or SUPER DAN living lavishly even though they achieved so much more than datuk?

The kind of life-style INA and MAS players have contribute to their lack of stamina and fitness, which are required esp when matches go into the third-set.

Taking INA young players as an example, they always complain when being asked to run around the stadium or undergo stringent fitness training; and not honing on their badminton skills. They don't realise that while skills are important, it's stamina and fitness that will determine the outcome of matches esp when the skill levels are more or less equal.

See the Kido/Hendra vs Fu/Cai and Simon vs Chen Jin matches. Kido/Hendra was a pt away from beating Fu/Cai in straight-set and you could see how their stamina and focus were effectively gone by the time they switched courts after the interval in the third-set  Ditto for Simon.

u may to hit a good point. Maybe being #1 achievement is at and/or better than what these MAS players's personal goal and is content with that. Money is good, life is good, pension outlook looks good, so why break your back to get big name titles when they dunno what kind or how big the reward from their country would give them. What BAM and MAS coaches need to find players who are MORE HUNGRY for success and achievement, maybe something beyond just money.

about fitness, i'm really surprised that INA and MAS players can't edge out the danish, korean, japanese and chinese in term of fitness and stamina since the latter come from cooler climate and should have more difficulty with the humid and hot sticky air inside the MAS/INA stadium. Physically speaking, correct me if i'm wrong, if each of these group train for the same amount of time, the MAS and INA players should out last the other players, in home soil and aboard competitions.

LD is probably much richer than the other players but the difference is CHN players have literally no life cept a few breaks here and there...

The team lives next to the center and spends their whole life there... look @ Zhang Ning documentary on youtube... I visited the Beijing Sports Centre and from Junior to Retirement, players spend their whole youth there whether you're on National team B or World champion.

Asking other countries to beat China is literally asking them to give up their life like what the Chinese players are willing to do.

life is about give and take. What u get is what u put in.
i'm sure 99% of the chinese in china envy to have the national badminton player's life style. Even in north american, a professional in any career doesn't stop at school or university. It is constant learning.

If there's no one come forth to take on the chinese, the chinese would win by acclamation.:D

are we talking about the same 2 pairs that won 3 SS titles between them for 3.5 yrs and been eliminated in last WC by 1st and 2nd rounds respectively? so, do do mean 'owned by' not owning, right?

with so much reward money, pensions, hugs from the PM's wife, etc.
there is no need 4 them to train ever harder. better juz relax, njoy life as MAS No.1.
    that is enough.
summore fans are ever so hopeful. lose also never mind. can expect their support and love.

I'm sure MAS has good physical specialist trainers to help the MAS Team. At their top level of play their fitness should not be seriously doubted. Now if physical fitness is the ultimate to beat the best in the world, then KKK/TBH in their so-called weak physical state could not hope to win international titles let alone remain WR1 for some time now. Why blame it on Rexy for not moulding their doubles players into the fittest sports people?

There are other aspects to becoming world champion, not just physical fitness or technical skills alone. The mind is more important, the will to win at all cost despite seemingly insurmountable obstacles - and in this regard helping players to achieve mental strength right from the beginning is desirable and necessary.

How many times did we witness 'weaker' teams overcame the odds to beat their 'stronger' counterparts? A case in point is the recent shock defeat of MAS by JPN in the TC QF. And a greater shock came later when mighty CHN was defeated by KOR in the UC final! And KOR was the defeated finalist in the hands of CHN for the past 5 UC series, I believe. Nevermind what LYB had said that his UC team was young and inexperienced. Do you think the CHN girls are physically weaker than their KOR opponents and that's why they lost?

So don't blame Rexy, whom many badminton enthusiasts have acknowledged as a great coach who have elevated the level of doubles play in the MAS Team. Not even the impressive Park Joo Bong could do it! ;)

LOL........I repeatedly raised the these problems with our MD espeacilly KKK/TBH....for past 1.5 years....people said i like to belittle them..!!

For their sake, they needed more physical trainning, upper and lower body.
They seems lack of legs power for them to move with good foot work around the court fast enough and they lost their agility, to jump with hard smashes and get back to ready mode to retrieve thier opponents shots in all possible corners.

They also dont have enough stamina to sustain multiple hard smashes, even the Kor WD can do multiple hard smashes....I cant understand how KKK/TBH cant, ..?

I think we are not to blamie it on Rexy.....for sure, Uncle Loh !

I agreed with Uncle Loh, beside their physical problems, kkk/tbh also have serious mental and attitude problems, i suppose !

They seems have the habbit to give up too easily, like in Swiss Open final, with bad sportmanship attitude, not give all out to win a match, they even seems have no emotion every time after their lost, not like CY who too frustrated and kicked his bag after lost to MB/Mogensen in AE ( i am not saying what CY did was right, but just look how angry he was when he lost ) It showed his determination to win a match... ;)
