New league a headache for national badminton coach

    By Sun Xiaochen (China Daily)
    Updated: 2010-05-27 09:38

BEIJING - The newly-established Chinese Badminton Super League (CBSL), which ended its first round over the weekend, has raised serious concerns it will have a negative effect on the national team's preparations for the 2012 London Games.

The CBSL, which runs from May 22 to Aug 9, is a product of the sport's governing body's bid to increase the game's popularity, build up the sport's marketing and also develop it at the grassroots level.

However, it is clashing with the national team's traditional training system, according to head coach Li Yongbo.

"The national team players have to sacrifice a lot in order to play in the CBSL," said Li. "I'm really worried about that."

To live up to their CBSL commitments, national players will miss a series of international games which would help the young guns in the squad gain valuable experience for the London Games, the coach said.

Your wish was granted. Zhu Lin had to face WSX and lost in two games.

No surprise actually. WSX of course is the favourite if these 2 meets.
Anyway, it is good news to hear that ZL still plays badminton:p

    Hi staiger,

Do you know that if we make the league global, we could end up with having a Thomas Cup played weekly. :p:p:p

Cai Yun's partner is Xu Chen. They are a lock for a win for their team. They also won the MD title at last year's National Games.

Both Malaysian and Korean BA's denied their players to play in the Chinese Super League. There is still a long way to go for the League.

No. Only Zhang JW's husband played during the qualifying rounds last year.

    @Staiger,
as of the moment there're already parts 1/3 and 2/3 of Lin Dan's match against Bao Chunlai on YouTube. just look up Helma1's channel.

afaik, the CBSL is a battle between China's provinces, dunno if that's common knowledge already, just wanted to put my 2 cents in. in the match it was Ba Yi (LD) against Hunan (BCL)

Which team does Fu Haifeng play for ? and who is his partner ?

    Thanks Soda....

So if the players are playing in the league , how are they going to have time to play in other internatioinal tournments during that period and would that not affect the national team if they are not training with the coach (together)..I hope it is not going to compromise our chance in 2012 !!
