We have a team of members from Kulim Club,Kedah,Malaysia would like to visit
HCMC and at the same time play friendly match with our Vietnamese friends or friends residing in HCMC. Can some one put us in touch with the Phu Tho Organising committee
or management committee so that we write to them to organise the trip for our members.

    Hi Irene,

I hope there are some kind souls in HCMC contacting you to arrange a friendly match.Otherwise you can read this post and then decide.

There is the Kelab MBC ( Malaysian Business Council). It has a badminton club for Malaysians working in HCMC. It's sort of beginner/intermediate standard with a couple of good players. Mainly male players.

Otherwise there are very good club/district level players at Thanh Thai courts ( see Mr. Hieu or Ms Cornchip in this forum). Consist of young male and female players.

It really depends on your standard. Last December I happened to watch a couple of friendly matches between an all ladies' team from a KL club playing a few friendlies in Hong Kong. Nearly all the Malaysian players were ex-state players and were several standards too high. So.... the standard has to be equal to make the friendly match more even. Ms Juliet Poon ex Malaysia player in the 1980s was also there to watch one of the matches. She is now a HK badminton coach.

I could give you MBC or Cornchip contacts if necessary. I am not sure about Phu Tho as I am a novice when it comes to places in HCMC even though I have been there many times and always enjoyed my badminton there.

Otherwise...... HCMC is always a good place to visit even if there is no friendly match to play.

    Hi Permanis
Thank you very much for replying to my mail. Kulim club players are not state players or ex-state players but mostly businessmen & retirees enjoying the game and socialising with friends. I would greatly appreciate if you could give me the contact no. and full address of MBC and Thanh Thai courts which I think is more appropriate for us to write to. We have more man players than women players.

Thanks for writing and you are the 1st to reply to our mail.

As for myself, I am a regular visitor to HCMC on short trip and would like to get to know more friends in HCMC.

    best regards

    Hi Irene,

In that case I think the MBC Badminton Club may be more appropriate. It's mostly Malaysian expats living and working in Vietnam. It's more leisure play.

    Contact details:Mr.Teoh Cheng Kooi - allwaysdbest4u@yahoo.com.my

Just in case I am giving you a Vietnamese contact

    Mr Trinh -kidrock29038@yahoo.com

Mr Trinh did asked me for the playing standard and age of your players and I am not able to say as I don't know your playing standard. Neverthless I have played with his crowd near Hoang Minh Giam and they range from intermediate to very good players. You might have to write to indicate your player's standard and age.

In both cases, I have written to them saying that you might write to them and when you write to them, just say that you are from Kulim Malaysia and that you were referred to by James Lee of Sydney. They know who I am.

I will be in HCMC from the 20th June for 10 days and if your friendly match is on during this time, I might be there to watch. Keep me informed.

You can contact me at permanis@hotmail.com

    Thanks

    Permanis

    Hi Irene,

I always believe that friendly matches are good ways to foster goodwill and friendship.

Just in case, there is another person in HCMC that you can write to organise the friendly match.

    Ms Phi phist3r@yahoo.com

Just tell Ms Phi you were referred to by James Lee of Sydney. Yes I now reside in Sydney and have been for the last 16 years. Originally from Sibu and still goes back to Sarawak every year. Yes it will be nice to meet up someday and who knows...... maybe Kulim and have a game of badminton there. The only place I have been in Kedah was 1 week in Alor Setar playing tennis (not badminton) for the government services in the 1980s.Where does your sons study in Sydney? UNSW was where I did my masters and represented the uni as the oldest player in the inter-varsity badminton games hehehe.

All the best and good luck with organising the friendly matches in HCMC. Looking forward to hearing how the outcome of it.

Hi James, Thanks for your email. Is Phi from MBC?. I will need to give one contact to our Club Captain so that they will not be confused. Which contact; Ms Phi, Teoh or Trinh we should writing to?. Please advise.

Alan, my eldest son studied his degree in UNSW and then decided to do his Masters at Macquire Uni which is nearer to home and
will finish his Masters next month.

Roy, second, studied in Macquire Uni and will finish Uni end of this year.

Our club members love to travel and make friends and we have been travelling to different clubs in different states for friendly matches in Malaysia and Thailand. Next planning to HCMC and also considering go to Tawau, where we were invited to go over to play friendly match but yet to decide where to go first.

Will definitely keep you inform of the outcome from time to time.

    best regards

    Hi Irene,

Ms Phi, Teoh and Trinh are from 3 different clubs.Unfortunately I can't advise which of them to contact. I have written to all three to let them know you will contact them. Why not contact Ms Phi first and see how it goes. She did say if you can contact her, she can try to organise something for you all.

    All the best

    James
