I know we have a lot of gripe with the lack of Badminton coverage in the US. I found this article puts things in perspective: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/inside_game/rick_reilly/news/2003/01/23/life_of_reilly/ It basically says that there is a huge gap in the attention and money between male and female athletes. The solution to badminton's problem seems to be to make it appear more masculine (400 pound guys running at each other will help).
