I had a bit of pain in my right knee for a while now, and i used 2 different knee braces but both were extremely painful because they restrain me from jumping, is there one that can protect/heal but won't restrain my jumping, the one i want looks like the one Taufik Hidayat used.

    Oh and pics please

Having just been thru a knee treatment I know one thing for sure: Once U start developing PAIN in yr knee U wear a brace is fine but u have to STOP jumping at all cost. Trust me. Even stop playing for a while, treat your knee/s, let it heal and then start (gently at 1st) again. In badminton 'jumping' is the most damaging move of all.

Having been thru 2 knee surgeries, I can attest that "jumping" is not as damaging as "landing"...

nothing will help you. there's a research that suggest that knee guards are really there for the peace of mind for the user (there's also the counter to it). that said, the best thing is to strengthen your knee first. there are some exercise that you can do to strengthen your calf and quad and you should really focus on doing that and strenghtening it before going back because those (at least the quads) are really the muscles that holds ur leg together. Found this out after I tore my ACL (had it recontructed and do a lot of leg press now).

Also, it maybe meniscus that is the issue here. Meniscus is the cushion between your thigh bone and your lower leg bone (whatever that is called). if there is a tear and the fibers are sticking out, it can generate discomfort. All that said, with the knee, as well as any body part, there can be too many reasons that cause pain. you should rest it probably a week and then get back to strengthening it (assuming it doesn't hurt when u do those 1 demensional movement exercises) and then back to badminton.

I had a knee arthroscopy by a top surgeon in Singapore 2 mths ago. Right now I can say after playing for the past 3 weeks that the knee is 'holding' well. Yes I agree that the brace is very psychological but necessary for the mind NOT to dominate the body. A good exercise program detailed by a pro physiologist is necessary for good rehab.
