Just thought I'd let people know that on the Badminton TV site you can see video footage of the trick shot that Gade pulled off against Gopi in the final of the 2001 Copenhagen Masters (??). A masterpiece of deception!
There's also an interesting bit of video about playing a backhand lift with deception - very useful and used by lots of top players. Hendrawan springs to mind.

I read in an interview that he's been working on that shot for years in training... This was the first time he used it in a big match -- a on a match point too, if I remember correctly...

i tried it at home today. not as easy as it may look. the hardest thing is to make deceptive, ie. don't let your opponent know your intention.

and also the contact point is to the right side of your right wrist, but if you start off with a backhand net, you need to aim it at the left side of your right wrist. you need to shift and bend your wrist around.

    Hi,

And i thought I could pull off trick shots, that shot is just incredible. To actually be able to that is is amazing, to be able to do that WITH decpetion is amazing, and to do it on match point, really does just some it up.
What i find amazing though is the deceptive lift. How he can can that, so fast aswell with great racket head control is just unbelievable, a great singles player.
