    For the 2010 U.S. Open:
Tai TY will have a good size Taipei contingent of fans to cheer her on:cool:..it won't be easy esp. going up against a very experienced player, but if she can force Tine to rubber games, that will be quite an accomplishment..

Singapore Open 2010 unveils a raw diamond

Perhaps the best non-China youth to come after Saina Nehwal is arguably the fresh-faced Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipeh.

It seems out of nowhere then suddenly Tai appears in Singapore to astound many of the best women singles players in the Singapore Open. I did not pay much attention to her in the earlier rounds as she seemed relatively slow in her movements for one so young. In addition she revelled in her high serves, quite a departure from the more popular low service.

But as the competition progressed this young lady of grit and determination began to show her true colours. And one by one, her opponents fell by the wayside. Her only stumbling block in the final was none other than Saina herself, who defeated both Lu Lan (SF) and newcomer Li Xuerui (QF) that China had on offer.

I'm sure many eyes will be upon this raw gem from Taiwan and watch her progress closely. ;)

Some pictures of Tai during the QF when she defeated Linda Zechiri of Bulgaria 21-10, 16-21, 21-15.

The Lady with a shy smile

Tai Tzu Ying has a shy smile, but she can yell out loud when she wins a difficult point and she can also clench her fist seemingly in defiance! :D

Her action in the semi-finals of the Singapore Open 2010 when she shocked the more experienced Bae Youn Joo of Korea 21-16, 21-18.

Tai met her nemesis in the final

Nobody expected Tai to go this far but her doggedness prevailed to surprise even the most difficult cynic.

But her final opponent is no mean competitor herself as she has travelled a much more difficult road than Tai and succeeded. The perilous road to the Great Wall of China has toughened Saina all these years and now even China considers her a danger to its own success in international badminton. So, inevitably Tai had not much of a chance against Saina and she lost gamely, 18-21, 15-21.

Will Tai be added to the very small pool of women players who can stand up to the Chinese? Time will tell but we most certainly wish her well. :)

BTW, can you identify the handsome BC member in one of the pictures. Please don't be jealous limsy.
