Hey all i am going to be playing in a tournament with plastic shuttles at the end of the week but i only play with feathers at my club, is there any way of adjusting quickly or maybe some type of shot that is less affected by the change from feather to plastic? since all the courts in the immediate area are all booked :S Thanks
Going from feathers to plastics is easier than the reverse, because your stroke and timing is already good. You'll require a little bit of time to adjust but you'll do fine. The only thing is the feel upon impact. It will be harder, as in "thud" instead of "paarp". And you will find it harder to clear to the baseline. You will also find touch shots (eg. net, drops) more difficult. The first two can be partially mitigated by lowering your string tension by 2 lbs or so, or by using slightly thicker strings.
Yes, lower your string tension by at least 2 lbs. And try to stay away from plastic . . . for your elbow's sake .
alright thanks guys is there anyway of lowering tension without restringing? i know this probably sounds stupid but i live in hope
i'm guessing the competition your playing is a school comp? Because i played a school one and its plastic and there is like no control if its plastic it's just either out or wth. This guy i player we gave each other 4 points by doing full- forehand serve, we were just ...
You cant lower tension by smashing, yes smashing the birdie may make the string to move out of place but that doesnt change the tension, even if the string is out of place nothing is gained or loss.
i have the opposite opinion. btw, u listed alot of 'not so easy' to adjust plastic cautions while saying feather to plastic would be easier. Vesped will find out soon enough about the plastic game play first hand hey vesped, report back your plasic experience after that plastic tournament
Thanks everyone i managed to get to 2nd place in my group thanks to your help the shots were harder but i thought i could clear about the same lenth :s sorry this is late but i thought i should thank everyone for their help
