There will always be bigger buzz around the best players than coaches, but I thought about it - we watch now football world championship, and there: each coach is a personality and you know, that England is coached by Fabio Capello and Germany by Joachim Low and so on... In badminton, I can't remember many of great coaches. For example, who are the national team coaches now? I know China has Li Yongbo and also that England appointed Kenneth Jonassen, but who is the head coach for team Denmark, Malaisia, Korea, Indonesia, India, Chinese Taipei, Singapore, Hongkong, Vietnam, Thailand... It seems to be pretty hard even to find those names - even Badminton England or Denmark, who have nice web presentations, they do have player profiles there, but not coach profiles. Why do you think is it? Also, it would help me, if you gave me names of the national team or other famous coaches from different countries.
Some countries don't exactly have national teams so that makes it complicated. Others do and the head coach has a very definite position. 3 national teams have Korean head coaches: Korea: Kim Joong Soo Japan: Park Joo Bong Netherlands: Kim Young Man, Gerben Bruijstens (he's not Korean, obviously)
I agree with you, it´s sometimes the problem to dig these informations. BTW I saw Kenneth Jonassen as coach of Denmark during Thomas Cup 2010. Did he sign the contract with England recently? I hope that coach of Czech team is still Ladislav Vorel .
for K. Jonassen's news, check out this thread: http://www.badmintoncentral.com/for...th-Jonassen-as-new-MS-coach-Badminton-England
Denmark: Lars Uhre, Claus Poulsen (+ Morten Frost?) Germany: Jakob Hoi England: Julian Robertson Hard to find?
India's national coach is Pullela Gopichand. Atik Jauhari is the specialist coach, dedicated to the top players like Saina, Jwala et al. Unfortunately, he does not want to continue in India beyond his tenure that ends with the Asian Games in December. Fortunately this is not due to money or political issues (he just getting home sick). Indian Badminton owes a lot to the duo.
Malaysian head coach previously was Yap Kim Hock, but now his more on the youth development program. The head coach currently is Rashid Sidek if I'm not mistaken. LCW is coach by Misbun Sidek and the doubles are coach by Rexy Mainaky.
Thailand's Head National Team Coach is Sompol Kookasemkit. Coach Udom Luangphetcharaporn is the head single's coach.
