Badminton: Hee Chun-Wee Kiong score breakthrough win over world No. 1 pair “Hee Chun-Wee Kiong played well to pull the rug from under Koo and Tan. They were well prepared and did not let their guard down,” said Kim Her. “They knew that the pressure was on them to produce in three consecutive tournaments - the ongoing Malaysian Open and the upcoming Macau and Taiwan Opens. And today, they showed me that they can handle the pressure - at least in the first one.” Earlier, Kim Her had said that a good showing in these Opens would be rewarded with places in the upcoming majors - the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. But the former national doubles coach of South Korea said that the real challenge for his boys would be today against the Indonesians. “I don’t want this win to go to their heads. The battle is far from over. “They have been playing with Koo and Tan so often and they know each other’s game so well. Now, the challenge is for Hee Chun and Wee Kiong to beat a top pair from another country. We will know today whether they can cope with this pressure,” he added. http://thestar.com.my/sports/story.asp?file=/2010/7/10/sports/6642417&sec=sports 1st,goh wei shen and teo kok siang should have be the headline 3 days ago,but unfortunately, they didnt.they are only 6 points away and consider that kido/hendra is a better pair than koo/tan(wc+og),this is good enough. hope that they produce good result in macau and chinese taipei too. 2nd,bam let tan kim her go for 5 years how stupid is that? congrates and all the best in the semi final.
http://www.internationalbadminton.org/news_item.aspx?id=36985 The day’s biggest upset came towards the end of the day’s play when Mak Hee Chun-Tan Wee Kiong beat top seeds and World No 1 Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong in straight games. Mak-Tan’s 21-19, 21-19 win over Koo-Tan put the smile of coach Rexy Mainaky’s face. “Despite their (Koo-Tan) their loss, they played quite well but more importantly, Mak-Tan proved that they can also be relied to deliver the goods on the international stage,” said Rexy. “All this while the pressure has been on Koo-Tan to deliver the points or titles in the men’s doubles and as such, the loss is a blessing in disguise.” Rexy also said Mak-Tan’s win will help them to gain a place in the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games squads. “If they can win the title here, it will virtually guarantee their place in the squad.” Mak-Tan will take on Indonesia’s Hendra Gunawan-Alvent Yulianto in the semi-final while the second semi-final will feature Olympic champions Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan against Hong Kong’s Yohan Hadikusomo-Wong Wai Hong. They should aim to get the title, not easy at all, but they should try as hard as they can. Good luck against Alvent/Hendra!
From last night's performance, I think they can get pass Alvent/Hendra and hope for the best against a possible Kido/Hendrawan in the final.
You mean Goh Wei Shem/Ong Soon HOck??? Other than that, uncles CTF/LWW also beat KKK/TBH off & on, but they're independent now.
For once, you say something positive, I feel cheered by despite their disappointing loss, thank you! They obviously were under pressure and was nervous today. They couldn't play normally and couldn't eliminate Alvent as a threat at the net (Wow, I can't count how many times Alvent killed the ball because of forced poor return) However, they had touches of brilliance in 2 or 3 rallies where they dominated control or was totally amazing in defence. They need to be more consistent, gain more exposure and learn how to cope with the pressure. Then, they can rise up to be stars. I would say next year if they want to gain a title, GP Gold. Good luck! You two are still my favourite pair!
After watching their match against hendra/alvent just now, i gotta to say that their defense is still not consistent and as impressive as i expected.. Anyway, they are still young.. still got room to be improve. Go for it!
Their defense is not consistent, but there was one rally where I was really impressed by the defence. But only one rally. If they want to do better, they have to try to keep that level of defense for more rallies.
Hehe, I kind of wish I was you, can get to see them against KKK/TBH. Then only I can know the real potential and gameplay of the pair without their nervousness.
I assume u didn't record mak/tan match against koo/tan? next time if got chance please do record it.. wana watch
this is one of the learning process not everyone know how to handle this when they are young(yes, except lyd,kkk and tbh) with more tournament they get send they will be only get better i hope they get more than 8 tournament per year this is only their 3rd tournament in 2010 and now already july plus macau and chinese taipei also only 5
