I have this shoe, the red and black version. It feels very light and confortable.
In fact Gel Blast 4 is out. RM 320 in AJ Puchong.

I believe these shoes might be good for those who suffer pain because of the impacts (knees or ankles).
Can anyone tell something us about the Gel Blast 3 gripping features? Is it advisable to apply grip sole spray?

Thanks.
I have knee pain after almost all training sessions and tournaments and some coaches told me it might be a problem due to the impacts (and btw I am 42).
The gripping was of course a concern, but now after your answer I believe those shoes might bring beneficts.
I ordered the model gel blast 3, blue, from UK, next week I ll have them.
I ll post a review after test them. Thanks again

Oh forgot to mention, I also use that clear rubbery impact absorbers at the heel.

Buy the clear ones, they last for ages, I am still using it after 5 years.
Another important thing is that you must land on your heel and then flatten the foot. Just watch any badminton video of the pros,

I received the shoes last week and already used them in a 3 hours training session and 2 days later I ve played in a tournament (played 2 x MS + 1x MD).
Here are my main conclusions about the shoes:
- very good grip on both PU and timber floors.
- little bit heavier and bulky than YY shb85, but that didnt affect the performance at all.
- I felt the feet higher and a softer and thicker layers between the feet and the floor.
- I felt a correction action since these shoes make feet to pronate when walking (I previously knew I am an "underpronator").
- After the training and the tournament, I had the same slight knee pain as before entering those events, as if I didnt have playing time. Now that slight pain is fading away. With the other shoes I have (YY shb85 and shb91) I suffered from increased knee pain during 1 or 2 days after training or competing (very dificult to walk down stairs or jogging), this was an annoying cicle that afected me for the past 1,5 years.
So my conclusion is those shoes proved me to be amazing, beating many publicities from some "badminton brands" about cushionings, impacts, etc.Last edited by silvestre351; 02-27-2012 at 07:38 AM. Reason: typed errors

blast 4 is a bit heavy

400g after i weighted them
blade 3 is lighter, dont know when blade 4 is coming
shb-f1 mx is in my mind now, only 260g

It is natural that the Blade model is lighter than Blast. I was told by Asics itself that the Blade model was designed for badminton. The Blast is mostly for Squash and Racquetball.
I ve never used Blade, but in my case I chose Blast for its technologies and conception to protect the knees and ankles. In these cases the weight looses importance.

i'd thought squash shoes would be lighter as they need less padding since they dont jump... guess i'd be looking for blast for the same reasons as you then
