Xiamen players join China national badminton team

Two young Xiamen badminton players have been selected to the China national team, making the number of Xiamen players reached six in the national badminton team.

This is a great achievement for a municipal team to get six places in the national team, especially as badminton is one of the most competitive sports in China.

Hong Wei, one of the two young players, comes from a very athletic family. Both of his parents were professional basketball players. Inheriting the best gene of his parents, the 21-year-old is 1.9 meters in height and is an impressive player in the badminton court.

In last year’s National Games, Hong Wei and his partner - the other famous Xiamen player Guo Zhendong claimed the bronze medal in the men’s double badminton game.

Liu Chen, the other Xiamen player selected to the national team, is only 18 years old. He has represented China to take part in the World Junior Badminton Championship for two consecutive years.

In this year’s World Junior Badminton Championship in Mexico, Liu and his team-mates won the group championship and he also won the mixed doubles championship with Hunan girl Bao Yixin.
