    Default Badminton England

Man...As the country which introduced Badminton to the World, I can't believe that England doesn't has its own sub-forum(not trying to rant here, just dissapointed with how this sport is received in the West). Sigh...Guess I just have to create a thred to post some news related to Badminton England from time to time.

Not sure if this is the right sub forum to do this. If not, I will have to trouble the mods to move it to a more appropriate place(A big thank you in advance).

British Badminton left in limbo as performance director Ian Moss leaves post

Moss leaves a void which needs to be filled promptly with the World Championships in Paris taking place next month and England looking to make amends for their decision to pull out of last August's event in Hyderabad over security concerns.

Moss, who previously worked with Rowing Canada Aviron, took up the role in January 2009 after disappointing results at the Beijing Olympics. His family was due to arrive in the UK from Canada over the next month.

Moss oversaw the recent appointment of former European champion Kenneth Jonassen as GB and England men's singles coach and players, while players have expressed their surprise at foreign appointments within the game.
One player cited a "complete lack of communication" with Moss as one of the reasons for his sudden departure, not helped by the fact "he was always away a lot."

In a key year for Badminton England, its home Championships will take place on March 8-13 in Birmingham, following the opening Super Series event of the year in Korea.

The World Championships, which will be held at Wembley Arena London, take place next August. The Super Series Finals for 2010 will be played in the first week of January next year.

In May, the Badminton World Federation announced that the All England would join the Korea Open, Indonesia Open, Denmark Open and China Open as one of five events comprising badminton's new Premier Series, effectively the first tennis-style grand slam.

Default Geoff Rofe elected as Badminton England president

Geoff Rofe has been elected as president of Badminton England, the sport's national governing body.

    Published: 11:41AM BST 08 Jul 2010

Rofe won an overwhelming victory in the ballot at the governing body’s AGM at the National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes and succeeds John Havers, who will remain on the Council as a vice president.

Rofe, 84, joined the Kent County Committee in 1948 at the age of 22 and held almost every role through to county chairman and president before stepping down in 2005 when the Kent association became a limited company.

He has served on the Inter-County Championship Committee since 1968, has been a member of the Badminton England Council since 1971, and has been a Vice President since 1992.

Geoff still performs key roles behind the scenes at the Yonex All England and English National Championships and other major domestic tournaments.

Default James Van Hooijdonk earns Commonwealth call for Wales

Badminton teenager James Van Hooijdonk reveals his fighting spirit

Badminton rookie James van Hooijdonk was born in the Netherlands but will be "proud" to represent Wales at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
The 18-year-old 2009 Euro junior silver medalist will make his major senior bow in October for the land of his mother.

"To qualify for the Commonwealths is a great achievement and I'll be proud to represent Wales," van Hooijdonk said.
Player/coach Matthew Hughes, in his third Commonwealths, and Jonathan Morgan are Wales' best medal hopes.

Hughes, who has won 100 caps for his country in his 22-year career, is ranked 17th in the world and will not only hope to win a medal but pass on his vast experience to his young team.

Hughes, winner of 10 international tournaments, will be the experienced player in the seven-strong youthful squad alongside fellow 31-year-old Morgan who is ranked 41st in the world.

I think Kenneth has been with us shortly after the Thomas Cup. He is now working on our boys. His first assignment will be to prepare the boys for the up and coming European Championship 2011. After that, the World Champion in Wembley and the Olympics in 2012.

Hopefully, he can further improve our MS squad and gives all those big names, like LD and LCW, a run for their money in the coming WC and Olympic games

    Default Overhaul in Badminton England

Badminton England announce Vikki McPherson as head of GB performance

Badminton England completed one half of their promised changes at the top of the sport when Vikki McPherson was named as head of GB performance on Friday.

McPherson will take on some of the responsibilities of Ian Moss, who quit his post as performance director last week. She will begin her role on Aug 9, two weeks before the World Championships in Paris.

Adrian Christy, Badminton England's chief executive, told Telegraph Sport that a new head coach "with significant international experience" would also be revealed next week.

It's about cementing our focus on the whole of the Team GB environment," Christy said. "It's about more than just the Games in London.
McPherson, who helped Britain win bronze at the 1998 World Cross Country Championships, joins from the English Institute of Sport where she was head of business operations.

Not sure if general forum is the right place for this thread as I am only posting the news regarding about Badminton England(our national badminton association) in this thread.

"All" the news about Badminton England itself had been posted here. If you have specific news about any of the players instead of the association, the pro player's section is the place to be. Maybe just a technicality but you'd probably "get away with it" if you named it England Player's or better even UK Player's.
Then again something like this is in the player's section as well ...
And now that I'm reading it 7 million pound for 3 years from UK Sport (= excluding any sponsorship money). And the dutch contract with Yonex pays half that over twice as long a period. Not sure how much government money comes on top of that but it's probably hardly worth mentioning .

"The first litmus test will be becoming European number one by 2010," says Christy, who took over six months ago. Test #1: FAILED

I remember Badminton England bring 3 medals from the last WC in Europe (Madrid 2k06).
Do they have any chance this year ?

The French crowd love Nathan and Anthony you know

That would be harder with no Donna and Gail but 1 medal can be a respectable aim
