Liliyana Natsir humbles on London prospect
The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Thu, 03/22/2012 9:55 AM
Although many expect the current All England Open mixed double champions Liliyana Natsir and Tontowi Ahmad to shine at the London Olympics in July–August, Liliyana Natsir has warned that being overly optimistic would be a burden for the pair in the quadrennial event.
Liliyana is sure that her opponents, especially the Chinese shuttlers, will identify the Indonesian pair as their main target.
“They will definitely study our playing pattern and flaws. Therefore, the main thing we can do with coaches and officials [at the Indonesian Badminton Association] is to learn more playing patterns and techniques,” Liliyana said on the sidelines of a ceremony following her double victory at the All England and Swiss opens in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Liliyana and Tontowi received Rp 200 million (US$21,792) each in cash bonuses from their respective clubs, PB Tangkas Alfamart and PB Djarum, for their historic victories in the current All England Open and Swiss Open badminton tournaments.
Despite her realistic view Liliyana, who with her partner Tontowi regained for Indonesia an All England victory in mixed doubles after 33 years, said the pair had a great opportunity to nail the gold medal.

3rd consecutive titles for Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir this year, as they retain the India SS title.
But, I am not impressed with their somewhat sloppy display in the first-half of the first and third sets as well as the entire second set. They appeared overconfident at times and it was only when they decided to focus that they managed to build a healthy lead in the first (trailing at 11-13 to lead 20-13) and third-sets (trailing 8-10 to lead 16-10).
Hopefully, this is not their peak like last year when they faltered right after they won 3 titles in a row (India SS, Malaysia GPG, and Singapore SS). Just build your momentum, esp when you are facing the other top 3 pairs in the world (Zhang/Zhao, Xu/Ma, and Fischer-Nielsen/Pedersen). They will probably need to beat 2 of these 3 pairs to win the Olympics title.

I think, one or two lost before olympic (At Singapore or Ina SS maybe) will be good for Towi/Butet. Not only will make them not over confident and work harder it also will make them less pressure at winning Olympic Gold.
If they keep always winning before olympic i am afraid the pressure will be too much for them to handle at olympic.
Just my thought, though. I really hope they will reach their peak performance at olympic not before olympic.

Butet is not in her best form during final against Thai XD. It is good to see that Butet does not get nervous while she is unable to get the shuttle go through the opponent's court several times. It is good to know as well that Towi does not get nervous either. Against yesterday final they slow down the tempo of the Thai XD, & does not give a lift to the Sudket, this is the cracker & the reason they can beat the Thai XD despite not up to the notch performance by Butet. Every other XD pairs who want to have higher possibility to beat Thai XD needs to slow down their tempo. Sudket just so good during fast pace interchange games, Saralee is not bad either just that rather than give ball to Sudket, they should prefer to give ball to Saralee. Saralee also tends to make more unforced errors & get nervous easily.

Ahem, I heard that Butet got her 'monthly female problem' in the Indian Open finals... She might be a tom-boy, but she is still a woman.

Make no mistake, the victory over Xu Chen/Ma Jin is an important morale-booster ahead of the London Olympics. No more chance to face Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei or Joachim Fischer-Nielsen/Christinna Pedersen until London.
Now, can Towi/Butet go one step further to take home the coveted INA SSP title?

Indeed. The victory over Xu Chen/Ma Jin at Ina Premier Semis is very crucial , yet it is a must win match for them to be able to increase the possibility of them winning 2012 OG, since in my opinion Xu Chen/Ma Jin is one of the biggest threat for them, on the other hand ZN/ZYL are not really on form recently. However, Sudket/Saralee have forced Towi/Butet to put an end in their run for Gold Medal on 2012 Ina Premier with silver medal. Sudket/Saralee has played really well on the Final, in fact one of their best performance,i guess. Saralee does not execute many errors, she is really discipline in doing her part, Sudket has always been a very tricky player to deal with his trick shot combined with his speed & powerful smash are something that any players are always afraid of. Sad to say, Sudket/Saralee just better on INA Final. A lot of time Sudket able to get a very steep drop, a tricky one, then when Towi/Butet clears the shuttle, they are not able to recover quickly & Sudket smash it around the body which resulted in a weak return, either being hammered by Saralee or hit the net.
In contrast when Towi/Butet beat Sudket/Saralee on India Open Final, Saralee did too many unforced errors, & Sudket performance although still good, it is still slightly below than on INA Final. Additionally, Towi/Butet also did not target Saralee as much as they did target her on India Open 2012Last edited by Licin; 06-18-2012 at 04:57 AM.

Let's hope that Towi/Butet can rest well before going to the 2012 Olympic Games
.
I watched the 2012 Indonesian Open SSP XD Final live (via live-streaming).
Towi looked tired. And Butet wasn't as sharp at the net as her regular self.
Sudket was really causing much trouble to Towi/Butet with his cross-court and deceptive shots. And Saralee was playing at her very best.
Let's hope that Towi/Butet can rest well before going to the 2012 Olympic Games.
