BAM mulls plan for ‘combined’ badminton academy in Labu . I return to the link, but couldn't read it. Then I found it at The Malaysian Insider; http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/...-plan-for-combined-badminton-academy-in-labu/ ====== * ====== start article ====== * ====== BAM mulls plan for ‘combined’ badminton academy in Labu KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 (2010) – The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) wants to study a proposal to build a badminton academy and cycling academy at a proposed indoor velodrome to be build at the Vision Valley in Labu, Negeri Sembilan. BAM vice president Datuk Mohamed Al-Amin Abdul Majid said the feasibility study would be conducted by a committee set up by the national body. “If the proposal is accepted, the state-of-the-art academy is expected to be completed by 2012 and replace the current BAM academy, situated at the Kuala Lumpur Badminton Stadium, in Cheras,” he said here. Two years ago the Ministry of Youth and Sports had identified a site in Taman Maluri, Cheras to build the BAM academy but that proposal was not pursued because a new 3.3 hectare site in Jalan Cochrane, Cheras was found. However, the second site was also aborted since the land, owned by the Department of Environment, was deemed very expensive. Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek had last month announced that the National Badminton Academy would be build in Labu, Negeri Sembilan. Ahmad Shabery later announced that a velodrome would also be build at the same location and house the National Cycling Academy. Mohamed Al-Amin said BAM was made to understand that the badminton and cycling academies would be combined. “The proposal for the BAM academy to shift to Labu is welcome news but we must study whether such a move will bring about a maximum impact because most of the back up squad players feel more comfortable if such an academy was build around Kuala Lumpur. “We are looking for our own ‘home’ with facilities like a training centre, gymnasium, hostel, research and development (R&R) and other facilities,” he said. – Bernama ====== * ====== end article ====== * ====== Any Malaysian BCer know what is happening to this project? .
