I have a few birds here that are pretty beat up(either ripped or too fast for games), Should I throw them out or give them to a coach for practice brids? *looks at Badrad* My Question is: I'm wondering how you tell a "good bird"(in terms for practice birds) and a "junk bird"? btw... Badrad, mind if I drop in for Sataurday the 22nd @ 8:30?
When all the feathers are gone Seriously, it depends on each individual. For me, a "good bird" where the flight is still consistent (it doesn't wobble too much) and maybe only one or two feathers are gone.
4 levels of re-use for plastic shuttles: new condition - paying customers and adults - fresh from tube or within a few games at low levels. acceptable condition (conditions that any normal paying adult refuses to use slight wobble otherwise playable) will be used for training play conditions by juniors. unacceptable but intact (conditions where shuttle is relatively useless in flight) can be used for feeder (rapid) exercises, where emphasis is reps and speed. Dead (torn, parachutes, bullets, cork blown off) hand over to tots for craft making. (his is not really a use, but a state - REborn - tots turns dead crap birds into work of art that will adorn Dad's office for years to come...
Oh yeah, sure come by. I have not been showing up regularly. I have had commitments on Friday evenings and keep me quite late so have not been able to get up early for the Saturday training. Dave and Ben are always still there, doing drills and practice.
badrad, any thoughts on people "flarring" the birds? BTW: it seems like the condition for plastic birds are either "new" or "dead." Haven't seen too many plastics that still have the cork attached by the time they reached the wobble stage.
Yes 20 pushups on the spot when I catch them doing it. Really I do, even the ladies. Actually - not to sound sexist - but I have seen more girls flare birdies than guys. Here's a rough list of penalties: flare or otherwise trash shuttles - 20 pushups walking through a court - 20 pushups swearing or other foul language - 20 pushups fighting - expulsion hanging on or tapping the net with racquet - 20 pushups leaving without helping to put equipment away - 20 pushups attitude - 20 pushups generally pissing me off - I play a game with them...
So wut does flarring give you? slower birds? wut's the fun in that then? Wow!? can i piss u off next time I see you? so I can play you a game and get as many pointers as you can give me? On second thought, how about just giving me pointers? I dont think pissing you off would be a good thing considering you took out people's shoulders and knees over at cameron during the summer
Wow badrad... do people show up for badminton--or the pushups? Judgeing for your list, quite a few people I know would be doing 100+ pushups an hour. At my club, every bird is flarred, and still flies too fast. The gym is very very cold, so even the flaired birds travel an entire feet or two too far. In Yonex's defense, our execs only purchased medium speed mavis 300s, which fly fine in the summer.
LOL badrad, I don't think I'd last one minute in your death camp1 Now back on topic, what does "flaring a bird" mean?
I'm not sure how you guys do it but at my club, the cut off those small "wings" (the V) and essentially shorten the skirt. They then flatten the groves of the shuttle at the ends, which fans out the skirt of the shuttle. I'm not sure if just pushing the skirt outward without cuts would do the same thing, but i suspect that method would not change the relative speed of the bird at higher/lower speeds.
awww - i ain't so bad... An interesting side note: One of my students who was one of the worse in terms of discipline, became the team manager, and is now the assistant coach for the school team. I still remember one session way back ago, he did do 100+ pushups. Actually he was so bad, I kicked him out of the gym whenever practice started. He was determined to get back on the team, so he wound up for an entire week, sneak into the gym ahead of everyone, setup the posts and nets, then leave. Took a few days for me to realize that someone was helping set up the gym. So after a week, I let him back on the team, with the condition that if he screws up, he does double penalties. And so it goes...
Re: awww - i ain't so bad... You mean the double penalty is being the assistant coach? That means he can't get to play!
I think I know how badrad's nick was derived... If you're BAD he'll get RADical on your heiney ... and if you get worse, you get the boot out of his camp. It would be funny if they saluted him and called him "General" instead of coach hehehe. Military style badminton camp... I love it! Hmmm... Badrad, does this mean what I got was a honorable discharge? Hehehe j/k
Hmmm... Maybe he actually referring to, "20 push ups * the points u lost"... Then, I guess u won't even try to think about how many pushups u will perform.
That's ok! I can take the pain! 15X20 is only wut? 300? haha... ok... maybe 300 is a bit much... I'll stick with 200 or less
