Except for Mia Audina Tjiptawan whose results are not yet posted, all the seeded women have made it into the third round. Mia Audina Tjiptawan will probably win her match. The seeding holds for the women's event. Ron
Camilla is out! Camilla lost to Pi Hongyan in straight sets! Is this the beginning of the end for a wonderful career?? So, no Europeans are left in the Women Singles other than the transplanted Asians like Mia and Pi.
And 6 of the 8 women left are or were from China. Even the transplanted Chinese beat the rest of the world. The Chinese women's singles are very strong. This is not good for the next Urber cup or the Sudirman cup. Ron
Re: Camilla is out! Not at all a good tournament for Denmark.. Only Jonassen and a couple of doubles left in competition.. too bad.. from a Danish point of view.. and particularly disappointing that Cammilla should be beat by Pi.. not that Pi is not a great player.. she is and of course she deserves some succes.. it is just that Pi stays and plays in Denmark and I have watched Camilla play her several times.. always.. always.. Camilla has been in total control.. and now this..
Mia and Kim I really hope to see Mia Audina and Kim Kyeung Ran can go to semi-finals tomorrow so that the WS competition is more colorful although, on paper, Zhou Mi and Gong Ruina will win.
Both Gong Ruina and Xie Xingfang won their ties (Xie by walkover, what is wrong with Wang Chen?) and China is assured of at least one finalist. Zhang Ning is favored over Pi Hongyan and Zhou Mi is ranked higher than Mia Audina Tjiptawan. This might be an all Chinese finals and possibly all-Chinese semifinals -- what else is new? Even if Pi wins, she is a former Chinese. The Chinese women are just too strong. Ron
Hi, Camilla had a very poor match against Pi Hongyan. Pi was very VERY quick around the court, not once do i recall seeing her play a backhand. But camilla seemed to be hitting everything out, and Pi simply outpaced her. Camilla was not playing an attacking game at all, and when she did, half of them went out. Very dissapointing for Camilla. Matt
The women's semi-finals are: Gong Ruina (1st seed) vs. Xie Xingfang (6th seed) Zhou Mi (4th seed) vs. Zhang Ning (2nd seed) It seems that only former Chinese, Wang Chen of Hong Kong (which is still China anyway) could have stopped the Chinese juggernaut, but she had to concede a walkover. The women's singles competition has become boringly predictable and a Chinese will win the single's title no matter what; too bad there is no longer any suspense after the semi-final stage. Ron
No disagreement there. Team China Women is one supreme powerhouse. If Camilla is at the end of her career, there will be no one to challenge Team China Women left. Ron
