hi i'm 28 yrs old. have been playing badminton on regular basis 4 times a week with footwork training. i had this injury on my knee. this was the similar position when it occured and it did had a pop sound but no swelling. i first thought it was fine and kept playing without ice treatment, it started to pain a week later. this was the similar position when it occured. i was on full speed trying to get the ball and then the pop sound appeared. this happened 1 year ago. i kept playing even though i felt moderate pain along the knee. i stopped 2 months ago and did visit a specialist and did physio therapy(ultrasound, heat, electricity), and the paid did go away a little and the doctor did inject me on the knee. but still not getting the best result n the pain kept coming back. i did an mri and the test show there is no tear in all dept (acl, lateral, medial, meniscus) kind of weird. below is the pic (attached) is the part where it is feeling pain. the movement that i have pain doing is when i am trying to move my knee forward (in a sitting position) with feet on the ground on the 95-100 degrees angle and when trying to move my knees from 90 degrees angle to straight angle it hurts when i apply pressure and try to lift it up. gout_knee.jpg (39.6 KB) anyone experience this ? and any ideas what is it and the treatment thanks
does it hurt if you knee down (with the "location of pain" resting on the floor and taking your body's weight) ? does it feel painful/tender when you press on that spot?
when i rest my whole feet on the floor and press no pain. only when i do certain movement example sitting on a chair on a 90 degrees angle (with foot intact on the floor) doing movement of moving the foot forward to 120 degrees angle. i felt pain. and when trying to lift it up like below also felt moderate pain. this position with apply pressure felt pain and this position, moving the knee forward to 120 degrees not backwards it felt pain
From where the arrow is pointing in the first picture, it would suggest Patella Tendonitis, however when I experienced it, there was no "popping sound" so although the source of pain is in a similar position to where Patella Tendonitis would occur, from what you have said, it is difficult to diagnose Patella Tendonitis as the definitive problem. Can I ask are you right or left handed ?
i had a similar injury. i wasn't exactly sure what it was as i didn't get any diagnosis. however, the closest thing i can tell was patella tendonitis. the final cure for me was to rest for 4 months, with only light exercise during that period. since then, i have not experienced it again.
If you have a bump below your patella and it feels a bit sore to press, then you probably have an osteophyte. I have an osteophyte on my right knee, but it doesn't bother me as much anymore.
That pop sound sounds like a subluxation ie partial dislocation of your patella. Probably happened when you went forward for a shot and your knee had gone past your foot with most of your weight on it. You should avoid this in the future as it can lead to more injuries. Just rest it and it will recover.
yes i am resting for two months -> @ldrules i am right handed but the injury happened to both my knees. both with clicking sound. hm yes looking at the picture of patella tendonitis i think its where the main area is just below the patella. think i should rest more and had more physio theraphy. hm funny thing is how come i did an mri and it did not pick up the injury. what kind of exercise did u do kwun ? thanks
my injury was on my left knee even though i am right handed. i feel it when i do things like walking upstairs or kneel on the floor. i didn't do any particular exercise, just rested for a few months. overtime, the tenderness and pain goes away. it was a painful few months (in a different way, if you get what i mean... )
When I went to see a doctor about my Patella Tendonitis he said, that I should rest and not play at all, for 3 weeks, but this was impossible for me, and I went on playing during the injury, I had some sore of tablets prescribed to me for me to take 4 times a day I think. (good old NHS) and I bought a Patella Knee Brace, and it went away. No matter if I played for 40 minutes or 4 hours no pain whatsoever. Obviously I don't actively promote going against doctors orders, but for my situation, the injury went away. No reaccurence since, except if I play for 6 hours at a time, and then my left knee can get sore, but in this situation I take a break (I am left handed)
The clicking sound and pain/discomfort only at certain movements/angles, may suggest a lateral plica. I am also having this issue, and I am scheduled for an MRI scan later today and results examination tomorrow. Depending on the results, a small incision may be necessary to remove the plica. You may want to re-check with your specialist. Justin.
