Maybe the short answer to this specific question is you are an attacking player. Everyone has a style (not necessarily their own), and it is interesting to see where some succeed with their style and others do not.

A perceptive player will take into account their opponents' styles as well. I wonder if your question should really ask how to use your attacking qualities to exploit other players' weaknesses?

By all means, play to your strengths, but if you are not exploiting opponents' weaknesses, do you think you need to compensate by varying things?

Hmmm......how do I exploit other players weaknesses? I've played with attacking players before, basically all they do is smash, most of the time, at least.

Well, I think "samsh" has 2 types:

    1. Power smash: This kinda smash focus more on "power" and "speed". Use the extra power to generate "fast" hit, which will give opponent trouble due to lack of response time. The defender might be able to put it back, but the return should be weak and with bad angle. Therefore, at least generate 2nd chance to attacker.

    2. Accurate smash: Not necessary to be a full arm rotation swing, but try to let a quick hit land in particular spot, and let the defender not even get a chance to touch the shuttle.

    Re: ??

Grufey, if you're playing doubles most of the time, there'll be need for power smashes more than smashes that are acurate(at least for our level) I find that power smashing and dropping to make the opponents run will be more effective than trying to pin-point ur smashes(unless u can consistantly smash onto the side lines) personally when I'm in the bak I tend to switch my shots whenever the opponents are standing too far up, which i jus wind up a huge smash(when iz a good day... otherwise I'll hav to settle in with my weaker smashes) or when they're standing too far back, in which I jus try to put a fast drop just past the survice line
It usually gets me points this way (of course I need someone that can be a threat up front :D)

Well strategic would be more like dropping, cross court and putting the bird where they aren't all the time whereas power would be like smashing in between them alot.

I'd prob be neither since I never always smash... I really like slicing because of the sound LOL.

    Can't really agree...

I am a better double player (oh, still suck compare to most of u here), than single. I think two types (as I listed in previous post) has different useage:

    1. power smash: More useful for backcourt coverage or net play finish move. This way, u need the "power" to attack and finish ppl off or, at least, put them into trouble and set up for ur partner.

    2. accurate smash: different than drop (but both closer to net), but same phil. to make them run. Drop works better for ppl who does not have a good net control game (slice, drop, net save, net block), but net smash works well for ppl who has good control, but very weak returns/drive/clear. Both these will make them run and make errors in return.

I don't think either one can replace the other, since 2nd type, is also very important for the net player who always stay in the front. Too much power (unless a kill/finish), will pull them out of balance, and gives opponent a chance to take advantage.

    Re: Re: Re: ??

hmm... interesting, ur "accurate smash" seems to be my faster drops! :D
I was watching the swiss open(i beielve that's wut it was) a yr or so ago, and in one of the games, the talking person(announcer?) said that one of this korean guy(forgot his name too :p) had this thing called a "power drop" which would be faster than normal drops, but it will land past the service line

I think this is the one ur talking about LB, cuz that's where my faster drops would land(and they're not exactly drops when i do it correctly, they're more like smashes)

    Totally agree...

That's exactly what I usually do. The bird lands around the serve line, often close to the corners. Very useful to pull the net player off balance.

    Re: O ok

Very true. It's a combination of various factors:

    1. ur postion

    2. ur strength / style

    3. ur opponent's position

    4. ur opponent's style

    5. Partner's information (1-4), if playing double.

My drop-shots are terrible.......is it cuz I'm SHORT? It always passes the whatever line it's called. In other words, it's exactly like a smash, but a very very weak one. :(
