    Hi,

    A few preliminaries:
    - no previous knee injuries/strains/problems?
    - any trigger event recently that started this?
    - any swelling around the knee?

It sounds like a loose meniscus or loose body inside the joint.
Does playing more seem to aggravate it?

If it persists or worsens, you should go seek a professional opinion.

    Hi Visor,
    - previous knee injuries/strains/problems?
about 7 years ago where i was off road riding and flew into a ditch, landed somewhat on the knee( wearing knee guards though), no injuries on the knee but the whole area at the back of knee was black and blue?? didn't see a doc and healed in about 2 weeks.
    - any trigger event recently that started this?
    - any swelling around the knee?

no swelling on the knee, no trigger point, just playing hard and fully stretched a couple of times.
Does playing more seem to aggravate it?
yes, area becomes stiffer and flexibility less each time I played in last few games. usually i don't feel the pain until when the game is over.

right now, i don't know if i should apply heat or cold treatment.

Ice a joint, don't heat it.

Try taking some ibuprofen before the game, if you are not allergic to it.

You may still need to see an MD and do a standing X-ray to check your meniscus.

There may not be any overt swelling, but that pain in the back and the inability to fully flex could imply a joint effusion and a Baker's cyst.
Agree with Dr. Visor that meniscus needs scrutiny.

tks for your input. I'm going to lay off strenuous exercise for 3 weeks and take glucosamine. ice the joint if its painful. if that doesn't see improvement then i think a trip to the specialist to check meniscus is warranted. i hope i can hold off playing...
