In badminton current and history I saw players come and go leaving me with huge awe about their smashing ability. Its also amasing to see the evolution of the smashing style, technique and speed, i wonder how fast human can take this even further. Below is a list of players that i think are worthy to make to the list of "Best ever smasher", perhaps you guys can vote:

    1. Liem Swie King: Famous for his jumping smash, the first pro i know that used jumping smash extensively. He played both single and doubles
    2. Heryanto Arbi: The man of 1000watt smash, reinvented the way MS played with his ultra attacking smashing game. His game was much closer to how today's MS game is played than the boring long rally played by MS players before him
    3. Fu Hai Feng: The current world record holder, simply the best smasher in MD today
    4. Yang Yang: My childhood baddy idol
    5. Taufik Hidayat: The current MS record holder
    6. Lin Dan: Very powerful and effective
    7. Lee Chong Wei: I like his cross court cross, its very2 fast for a skinny guy :)
    8. Tan Boen Hong: The current Yonex world record, 421km/hr????

There are maybe some players i missed out, please feel free to add

He made jumping smash, so simple and relaxing
Is fun to see him jump smash....

Jung Jae Sung is right up there for me - a tiny guy but HUGE angle thanks to his jump. Not as consistent as some, but give him a 2/3 court lift and you may as well run off court. He did one during the last game of the AE08 MD final that had Morten Frost amazed - "...sheer power!"

Not sure about the oldies - but between TBH, FHF in doubles, I would pick FHF because of his super consistency is smashes. TBH has great power too but I think he loses out to FHF in consistency. Actually, KKK is a good smasher too! :)

For me the beauty (Tan Boon Heong) and the beast (Fu Haifeng) are best in the way they execute their smashes;)!

Correct, he has one of the best technique. He and KKK reminds me a lot of Rexy and Ricky back in the days.

..imo, we can't really compare between the players of yesteryears and nowadays. In other words, it's hard to pinpoint to one. For one, racket technology has gotten better and most importantly lighter..besides that, players' physical attributes of of yesteryears and nowadays are different..

Btw, the title shows "smasher". Is it only 1 smasher or supposed to be "BEST SMASHERS"??..

Not to hijack this thread and another one Yoppy has opened, but just a suggestion...
Mabe get Kwun to create polls for separate categories, e.g. Smasher, Backhander, net player etc.
    Then further create periods e.g. 1961-1970; 1971-1980; 1981-1990; 1991-2000; 2001-2010
Leave the polls open for say 60 days or thereabouts, and then declare the results.

..we could create additional threads, such as:
World's BEST BEHIND THE BACK SHOTMAKER ever lived???
World's BEST BETWEEN THE LEGS SHOTMAKER ever lived???
    World's BEST DIVER ever lived???
World's BEST SLICE SHOTMAKER ever lived???
World's BEST CROSS COURT SHOTMAKER ever lived???
World's BEST DRIVE & PUSH SHOTMAKER ever lived???..
World's BEST TRICKSTER/DECEPTIVE PLAYER ever lived???...oh wait, i think we have a similar thread to that..

Well, why not? The basic idea is a good one (maybe you were being a bit flippant about the between-the-legs category and other such, :D) but creating a "BC awards" or "lifetime achievement awards" set of polls based on performances over a decade would not be such a bad idea. The "over-a-decade" would take care of the issues that come up with progress in technology, training techniques, more money to spend etc etc.

I think it would be a very interesting and fruitful exercise.

There are few good ones like Jung Jae Sung, Chan
    Chong Ming, Markis Kido.
There are two bombers in the China team which suppose to be better than Fu Haifeng but unfortunately they are just sparring partners. Can't remember their name but boy oh boy they are very good. Another new kid on the Block who
Is good in smashing and strike fears among the Malaysian team except TanBH is this kid name Goh Wei Shem. His smashes is the loudest and fastest in the Bam setup. You should see him smash.

Yea sure if thats possible. Actually what i have in mind is not necessary how hard they hit, but the one that really stick in your memory. Im sure many of us can come up and looking at this choice from different categories, and i dont see any problem with that.
