Backhand: The most difficult shot in badminton to master. These guys i listed below not only master it but they are artist in their own world. Which of their art works you think worth the most??? 1. Sigit Budiarto: Fantastic all round MD player with precision backhand shots 2. Taufik hidayat: I dont have to say much about his legendary backhand, do i? 3. Peter Gade: The master of trick shots 4. Lee Ching Wei: Great backhand defence and cross court net backhand 5. Lin Dan: Not famous for his backhand smash, but I think his backhand smash is as good as Taufik 6. Lee Yong Dae: Have you seen his cross court backhand drive?? 7. Hendra Setiawan: My fav MD player 8. Zhao Jian Hua: Super cross court backhand clear and drop Am i missing anyone?
Tan Boon Heong has some ambitious crafty backhhand defensive cross drives as well (back facing opponents)
Xiong Guo Bao - he plays backhand like forehand. Poul Erik Hoyer Larsen - you have to see it to believe it.
The best among all those greats has to be Taufik He smashes straight, cross court or towards your body, using his back hand Even if the shuttlecock has gone way past him, he can still generate enough power to play a back hand clear...he did it against Andrew Smith before, totally caught his opponent off guard.
Just find a match between Xiong Guo Bao and Poul Erik Hoyer Larsen on YouTube. Just from watching that match, I would say Xiong Guo Bao's backhand is even better than Taufik's. Poul was not that good in that match. But he is defintely one of the best when he dominated MS in early 2000's.
Xiong's backhand was legendary. he was really the pioneer who can use his backhand as comfortably as his forehand. you will have to watch Poul's later video to see his better backhand.
I don't even remember that Poul-Erik still play on early 2000's. He's quite old when he won Olympic gold medal in 1996 (31), and although he was a great player i doubt that we could say that he ever dominated MS consider that in his era (mid 90's) there's other greats player such as Heriyanto Arbi, Joko Suprianto, Dong Jiong, Sun Jun, Rashid Sidhek, Allan Budikusuma, Ardy B. Wiranata ect and I dont think one of them was dominant to others. The match was in 1990 while Poul-erik has it peak in mid 90's so no wonder he looks not so good in that match. About Xiong Guo Bao, I just watch the 1st video and yeah his backhands was tremendous, but I think TH's backhands more deadly than his. well, maybe I have to watch the complete video first.
