Either way it is a wake up call to the smaller nations competing to have robust procedures in place to protect their athletes from accidental ingestion through seemingly innocuous medical treatment. The only safe way for an athlete is to not take anything unless approved by their team doctor, and even then check - because it is the athletes career at stake.
..i was thinking she might simply just be playing under the HK association flag but she might not be fully monitored by them; basically just on herself.

Any badminton association that was signed up to WADA code should not allow her to play in their events AFAIK. If they do allow then WADA will surely complain strongly. The idea of Bans are they exclude the athlete from all competition.

If Sairul passed his B test then there is no issue, he would be cleared.

Zhou Mi: I did not take banned drugs knowingly

BEIJING: Suspended shuttler Zhou Mi has denied knowingly taking any banned substances to improve on her sporting performance and she would make an appeal against a two-year suspension.
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) had announced last Saturday that the former world No.1 was tested positive for clenbuterol, an anabolic agent on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s list of prohibited substances.”
“I received the penalty on Sept 1 and this was due to the result of an out-of-competition doping programme that I had done on June 28,” said Zhou Mi in a statement posted on Sina.com on Sunday.
“Throughout my over 20 years in a badminton career, I had passed all my doping tests and have not thought of using any improper way to enhance my results. I don’t know how this could have happened to me.”
Zhou Mi, who represents Hong Kong after leaving the China national team in 2007, acknowledged that the only substance that she had taken and could possibly lead to the problem was an over-the-counter medicine to treat flu during the Singapore and Indonesian Opens.
She was knocked out in the first round in both tournaments.
The Guangxi-born shuttler was a bronze medallist in the 2004 Athens Olympics and gold medallist at the 2002 Busan Asian Games.

    Thumbs down Shocking!!

To be honest I was very shocked to hear this news. Indian media initially reported just "previously top ranked player Mi", and I kept saying hope this is not Mi Zhou.
But given she was a very senior player she should have been very careful. Given the dirty doping cases we keep on hearing, a sports reputation is on stake unless the governing body takes some drastic measures.
Sad day for her and badminton.

Reminds me a bit of Linford Christie. Great sprinter, stellar career, retired with no Drugs records of any kind. Comes of out of retirement to run in a lower grade event where some of his students were competing at & fails a test.

Question marks over his whole career & banned from even Coaching at the olympics (British Olympic rules)

    .
This thread is titled "The end is here".

It reminds me of the song "My way"; which starts with "And now, the end is near".

I hope that Zhou Mi will not say "The end is here"; but "The end is near".

Hope that Zhou Mi will still stay with Badminton for many years to come.

I am sure she will. People who move countries to play love to play badminton, so I am sure she will coach, if not play. (hk already said she wil....)

It depends on what language you are speaking, Mandarin or Fujian dialect.

..if that's the case, then why didn't she consult with the national team's physician(s) prior to her purchasing the medication? or there's no specific physician(s) within the HK national team being in charge of taking care of the players (incl. ZM) if they're sick? or is this common practice for HK players to purchase their own medication if they're sick? or she wasn't aware or forgot about the drug testing being applied in BWF?..or simply just an unfortunate "victim" to the random drug testing?..

    off topic:
actually it's in Indonesian/Malay (can be written as Mi or Mee or Mie); keeping it in the same language..just like the word "goreng" (fried)...
