I still very much enjoy playing competitively but when you're past 50, it's pretty much a downward direction that i'm heading. It's very frustrating at times when your body can't keep up with your mind. Is there any way i can do to play like i was 25 again? I have been doing training and all that but somehow i can't improve my reaction to smashes. Any input? James p/s i'm bored so i thought i'll post something
hmmm my friend's dad is over 50 and he's playing very well fitness is way up there but strength and power is a factor i find that older people tend to play a different style of game than the younger bunch soo adjusting to the new playing style is important other than that i would suggest maybe try out interval training? it's a great cardio workout and it can help with explosiveness
correctly said its no more speed and power but its controlling speed lol can't use their legs so have to use their skills and yes interval training and some farklet but to start this one has to find out your training zone
So no matter how hard i train, i'll never be able to play like i did 25 years ago. Interval training? What's that? Dominic, how are you? Will need your help when i'm back in november for 5 days. Expect you to do some magic . You know, if i hadn't taken up swimming in school, i probably would have been a better badminton player. p/s thanks for the training schedule.
ok see you then i sent you something in fact a training plan and it includes interval training you received it ?
Hi George, I'm good, thanks. As you can see, i'm still trying to improve my game. I'll be kl for a day in november so maybe i'll come to your club and play.
Sure James.. u can come my place to play anytime.. Do you have Facebook or MSN? maybe we can talk more there
Having been beaten by a few older gentlemen, I can definitely say their lack of speed and power is made up for with a great court sense, deception, and amazing placement. In singles, they aim to get you in trouble from the first shot and continue to pick corners until you make a mistake. If you're 50, playing like you're 25 probably isn't possible. but beating 25 year olds with your experience and making the younger generation feel like idiots for losing to a slow old guy is a definite possibility. I know this because I'm one of the many victims of being beat by someone who's 50+
..James, it's very easy actually. Just find a person or 3 people who are much older than you, say in their 60s or even older and play against them. I bet you'll feel like you are playing like you are 25 again.. Yes, good to know you are still playing competitively. For his age, James is still good and can still pack a punch (at least from what i remember from almost 4 months ago in KL, during T&UC)..
Feeling like you are 25 & actually being like you are 25 are different though. I agree though if you playing at 50 It is an acheivement badminton isn't kind on your body. I don't think I will be so great when I am 50!
Chris, lol. That's called bullying I actually prefer playing against the young ones. That way, i know i can get a good workout. And there's nothing like a good massage after a hard game. Dominic, i hope my body holds up to the schedule. George, i'm a bit old fashion. What's facebook? I'm actually going to Pattaya via KL in november for the World Chinese tournament.
hmm, u should go to this website. and sign up an account and start adding people to become your frens online! http://www.facebook.com whoah, u are still going for tournament eh?
