From the turmoil of another thread (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?88833-World-s-BEST-SMASHER-ever-lived), this thread risen This list of players below was voted and praised by BCers the most. I tend to believe that smashers in MD are fiercer in comparison to MS. IMO the role of smasher in MD is simpler than the play maker, they just have to smash the hardest they can so that the opponent cant return it or set up a net kill for the partner/himself. Obviously then many factors come to play, such as high jump/technique/placement/power etc......but the aim is to ATTACK & KILL!! MD list: 1. Fu Hai Feng x 6 2. Tan Boen Hong x 5 3. Jung Jae Sung x 4 4. Cheah Soon Kit x 2 5. chandra wijaya x 1 6. rexy mainaky x 4 7. Eddy Hartono x 1 8. Halim Haryanto x 2 9. Rick Subagja x 2 10. Sigit Budiarto x 2 11. Markis Kido x 3 12. Park Choo Bong x 1 Feel free to discuss
My vote will go to Fu Haifeng as he seems to be a very consistent smasher as well as being the most powerful. Tan Boon Heong and Markis Kido might have great power too but consistency still lacking opposed to Fu Haifeng. Jung Jae Sung is actually quite effective too. Unfortunately, I have not seen legends like Park Joo Bong, Rexy Manaiky, Cheah Soon Kit, Ricky, Eddy play. Anyways, hope the poll comes soon. There's no fixed criteria right?
The poll is up though I definitely disagree on the inclusion of Eddy. And Park Joo Bong over Kim Moon Soo is rather strange. I hope I got the spelling of names correct!
I personally would say Ha Tae Kwon...... he was an out & out smasher, big strong, not so mobile at the front, but just there to smash smash smash from the rear court. Sadly, he isn't on the list...I also agree bout some of the names on the list - PJB & Rexy - they weren't smashers at all AFAIK?
hehehe i am the 6th person to vote here and i think i know who the mods vote! based on current performances between fhf, tbh and mk in the recent wc10 i think fhf has the best smashing advantage, he has the power the speed and the repetitions!
..FINALLY!!!!..the list looks reasonably complete.. ..i also would throw in Ha Tae Kwon in there as i've seen his videos of him playing..Maybe Rudy Gunawan as well.. PJB and Rexy are iffy (they're more like an all-rounder), not specifically a bomber type..
My vote would go to Liem Swie King . My vote would go to Liem Swie King, when he was playing Mens Doubles. But he is not even listed. .
..btw, don't know if it's correctable or not, but i think there's a typo in the Poll title. Should read : Vote MD best smasher from 12 choices Also, for Ricky Subagja's name, there should not be an "i" in the "Subagja". sorry again if they'll cause a bit of hassle to edit..
I haven't voted.......my vote is HTK... on pure power/speed FHF, but HTK was a endurance machine smashing from atart to finish, 5+ times in a row
I don't see any non Asians in the list. Strange? Any way, I, too can't think of one at the moment. Or... Howard Bach?
I'm surprised because nobody has voted for Jung Jae Sung yet. The top three are the best smashers in today's badminton or should I say goodminton. LOL 1st FHF. 2nd TBH. 3rd JJS.
Ummm... replace PJB with KMS? Is there that option, considering what james said that PJB isn't the smasher and Cheung's surprise over PJB over KMS?
That's because many voting BCers are younger . That's because many voting BCers, who are younger, have not witnessed/seen players from earlier decades. .
I thought he mentioned Jung Jae Sung, not Park Joo Bong I would be an example of what you said though.
i voted Fu Haifeng. and TBH a close 2nd. many of the others are pretty close in terms of pure smash power and penetration, Fu / TBH wins out on the pure dynamism and athleticism, with FHF slight ahead in two categories. FHF looks much more dynamic, he jumps up and you know they will have to replace the court mat for the next match. TBH has a more efficient technique but lack on the pure spectacle. the 2nd part is that FHF is like a good wine, he gets better as he age, and he gets better as the match goes on. TBH hasn't really changed much since his debut and might even have gotten slightly weaker, his smashes are no longer as penetrating anymore.
Well.. I think LYD will get more votes that JJS for the wrong reasons. I agree with Kwun. FHF for pure dynamism and athleticism. Plus the shuttle speed he gets is quite incredible. Slight difference between him and TBH is that TBH jumps for height, hence angle. FHF jumps sideways more than straight up. Both are totally awesome.
