If the Men's Singles players were to hold a poll among themselves to choose a player that: 1. Most of them could possibly try to emulate 2. They can all easily respect. 3. They agree understand and is very good with the technical aspects of the game. 4. Is extremely fluent with his game. 5. Is extremely consistent. And very conscientious. 6. Plays the game in the right spirit all the time. Who do you think this player would be? My choice: Chen Hong.
Lee Hyun Il is very consistent and technical. And he never seems to get emotional. Chen Jin is also calm and uses good form to stay in rallies until he wins. They may not always provide the most entertaining matches but I admire the work ethic that lies behind their performance.
1. Most of them could possibly try to emulate: This one will vary from time to time, i believe the technical aspect of the game required new players to adopt good techniques use by previous gen 2. They can all easily respect: I almost for certain sure that it wont be Lin Dan he pissed too many opponents. My vote would go to Hendra Setiawan, he appears to be a very calm, humble, likeable and simple guy if you know what i mean. 3. They agree understand and is very good with the technical aspects of the game: This maybe Lin Dan , but my vote would go to Tony Gunawan. To me TG is an amazing game reader, he won Olympic, WC (twice), TC and a few other majors playing with 4 different partners (Chandra Wijaya, Rexy, Halim, Howard). It just shows how much he can adapt and apply his game in many different ways and still be succesful 4. Is extremely fluent with his game: Most top players will be fluent in their game, but ones that stood out in my mind are TH, LD, LCW 5. Is extremely consistent. And very conscientious: this is an easy one, LCW 6. Plays the game in the right spirit all the time: this will again be very subjective and my vote will go to Hendra Setiawan
Yoppy: you just defeated the purpose of this thread! :crying: Need to choose one person, can be an active or a non-active player in whom you perceive all these qualities and who would qualify for the definition of the player's player...
Upsss sorry..............did not mean to But one to accomodate all is hard to find, so I guess i would go for Christian Hadinata
..if the choice can be taken from an active/non-active players list and from any era, then my choice would be Rudy Hartono...however, he never played against Chinese players, or even if he did, they were very limited. There are many players who exemplify or closely exemplify those 6 criterias, even from Rudy Hartono's period onward..I'd throw in Liem Swie King, Gade in the mix.. *Btw, how come i'm seeing a men's doubles players' names being mentioned while this thread specifically asks for a MS player????..
Hmmm... You know, I really can't think of any reason! I am OK with opening this thread up to include all Men's players. Can Mod edit the thread title accordingly? Might be a good idea for someone to start one for Women's players, but I'm not even remotely qualified for that!
Thats fine cobalt, nothing wrong with opting for MS only. I was just asking. And so busy at the office when replying and did not notice your title I think there is one for WS already (if im not mistaken)
I was just going through the posts on this thread, and it struck me that most people's choices were for players of an earlier generation. Only 3 players from the current lot came through. I wonder..... does that say something about a change in the way badminton is played, and about the way players see themselves?
On 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 I can only name LCW. A genuine nice guy and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. Plus a hell of a good badminton player.
I would prefer the legendary Yang Yang or Hartono anytime. Lin Dan and LCW would probably qualify too.
Dont you get bored nagging on the same issue? Surely you must have something positive to say, or are you irrational? If we wanted to we can say a lot of negative things about Ina too, you are beginning to sound like a troll. The thread starter is asking a very constructive question to think about, not about imflamatory things to start a quarrel.
Yeah, a fairly good player! Now if only he would put his hand up in apology once in a way, when he gets a lucky net cord... (well, I couldn't really find any other nit to pick, don't blame me!!)
