I notice that a LOT of the members dont post... wuz up wif that? do they just register so they are "member" and not always guest(jus for the record) or are there "ghost members" registerd automatically by bots?

almost 1,400 members i think, and the most ever online was 36. I think there is a lot of inactive members.

That's very true.....the posts are usually 0! Maybe the modearators should email all these people asking if they still want to be member of BF(Can't imagine why people won't want to. :D). :p

Unless there's a mass mailing system, that'll be one tough job.

I think most of them are just here for 1 question. Such as raquet choice, maybe an injury, etc. Then they leave and never come back.

Currently 819 Members have posted out of the total of 1671 that's stated by "Members" on the bottom of the title page

    That's 49.01% NOT EVEN 50%!!!!!!!!!!!!

kwun, I think it's time to do something about the numbers of ghost members

    why?

we are not going to impose on member any rules on whether they need to post or not. everybody are free to register, whether they post or not is not required.

it is similar to free speech, everyone are free to talk, and free to stay silent.

on a different point of view, the best posters are not neccessary the posters with a lot of posts. i prefer quality posts than quantity posts.

hey... so u guys still do frequent this section :D
There are automatic registration programs out there that, upon getting on registration webpages, automatically registers. I'm not saying that people who dont post should be kicked out for not posting, I'm just implying that there might be "members" that are registered through these bots.

hmm... better not say anything bad about the admins anywhere then :p

I dunno quite frankly, people just like owning accounts?
I know it sounds weird that someone would put bots on forums such as this one, but from what I've heard the bots just search on the net and register(depens on how it's programmed, but there are quite a few out there that dont care what the registration is for... they just register) CAN anyone confirm this??
If you register for ebay, they have that thing where they want u to type in a few numbers (which the bots cant do) so it'll precent bots from resigering

Jchen, you also posted this comment on the 11 feb this year on another thread. You have repeated yourself. Wether we choose to comment is up to us

Here's an example of a thread of which half the posts are irrelevant. Is that the quality you want??

    http://www.badmintonforum.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8629

Of course, Kwun is right (as always:)). One has the choice to remain silent if one wishes.

He's just pointing out an example where half of those posts have nothing to do with the thread.

I think it's actually a good thing that not everyone posts all the time. A lot of forums that get overcrowded lose the "community" feel to it. If you look at usenet, most of those groups use to be like a tight-knit 'family' until it became oversaturated. Now it just contains random off topic posts by people stopping by without bothering to check back ever again. And spam--lots of spam.

I think the balance we acheived here is just fine. Also, just because people don't post doesn't necessarily mean they aren't 'active' members who like to read what we post. I used to be a member here a long long time ago (maybe 2-3 years or more?) but never posted. I have no idea what my account name back then was actually since my computer fried so I lost all my bookmarks. People tend to lurk for awhile before they start posting. When I signed up this time around, I didn't really post either until much later. Now I post too much and give Kwun headaches
    :p ;)

BRL your contribution are always very thoughtful and educated. you will be one of the last few who'd give us any headaches...

and yet again, i agree with what you said above. there are many more lurkers than posters and that's normal. we won't force anybody to post, nor will we kick anybody out for it. BF is holding very well as a community.

again, i prefer quality to quantity. at the beginning of BF, there were may be 20 of us and it was just as fine a place. of course, quality in quantity is always welcomed. but i would hate to see BF become a place in which only random chats and laughters exists and no serious and thoughtful discussions on badminton.
