Well, Wikipedia says that Deep Heat is a spray or cream with these ingredients:
- Menthol 5.91475%
- Eucalyptus Oil 1.97231%
- Methyl Salicylate 12.80123%
- Turpentine Oil 1.47287%
- Copper sulphate compound 0.56
Most of these type of rubs feel warm and tingly (don't get too excited) and they can bring heat deep into stiff sore muscles. Quite a few people find it quite nice for low back pain. Other people find it a bit irritating and not at all helpful.
All that to say, try it and see if you like it for your favorite cramp or stiff back.

Personally, I go for Tiger Balm! Fixes everything!
No, seriously, probably the only active ingredient in Deep Heat or the like is methyl salicylate, which acts like a local analgesic anti-inflammatory.
Voltaren (diclofenac) emulgel, I find, is better...
