how many of you keep rackets for collection purposes only, and never intend to string/use them for play? these racket would normally have some collection value. i have a few that falls into this category. Carbonex 20 - 2UG4 Carbonex 20 JP - UG4 (yes, 1U) Carbonex 21 Carbonex 22 MP99 AT700 ARC10PG what do you have?
I have rackets that I am unlikely to ever use & just buy because collecting. I am different from most apparently however that I don't buy them new & never string them (Don't see the point) I like to see there battle scars & feel the strings to swing the racket about. With Cab20 - I assume you mean the orig? what colour ones you have? Arc10PG? maybe later, is it so great now?
most of the weapon still can be buy from the market... i have only one Ti10 2nd gen- IP version that i dont intend to string it..maybe later when my kid pick-up badminton i might pass to him but will be 10 years later story... and yes, i have one extra 2nd gen that i am using myself now
I have the following classics and "potential classics" in my museum: (1) 1 Yonex Carbonex 20 SP (lavender) (2) 1 Yonex Carbonex 20 IP (lavender) (3) 2 Yonex Armortec 700 IP (1st gen) (4) 2 Yonex Carbonex 3 (wood) (5) 1 Yonex Armortec 900 Power CP (6) 1 Li-ning N90 (1st gen)
Wow... No wonder you threw out the AR110... I now have: - Aerotus 110 SP (from you) - Cab20 Power SP (from Bruce) - Cab8 SP (got the wrong version ) - Cab30 SP (battered) - B9100 (wood) - Mizuno TC700
I think these few are being forgotten because of the rarity: AT700 Super Brands Limited SP (although somehow collectors actually rumored about the inferiority of the SP code and it can still be found in HK....) MP90 [Orange] Boron [series] (used to have two of Boron 200 but traded them for a pair of MP100 SP/IP which are at least playable )
These are the racquets that I put aside and don't use because there's probably some value to it in the future. 1) Ti10 1st Gen TH 2) MP100 2U SP 3) 2 x TC700 2nd Gen (I have one which I am using and these are spare. I know there are TC700 fans out there so these might have some value in the future !) 4) AT700 Limited SP 5) Cab 30 SP 6) Arc 100 (unstrung) 7) AT900PLC (unstrung) 8) Arc10PG (unstrung) 9) Gosen Boonsak 6900 10) Li Ning N90 1st edition 11) Cab 35 JP
May I tread on a different note. Recently, finally sold all my ''other racquets'', RSL X2, Sotx WOVEN 16, TC700 Gen1, Cab 20 IP Lavender, At700 original, MP 99, MP100 all with reasonable mark ups if not substantial. Arc ZS will go rather soon. So I am left with 2 Victor SiW 35 (which though very good), I can't visualize it being a collectors item from today's perspective. The ArcZS (Original laser yellow JP) though, I thought from my heart would be a collectors item though (just my thought) in time! I don't know but I just thought somehow I shouldn't really get attached to things but more frankly since all of em have been strung and played with at least once or twice...I feel the burden of keeping em scotch free although can't hold back to take them out for a swing and smash session(s) one time or another! Verdict, I sold them all for peace of mind that I may get zero from them instead if I broke em! Poor me! What more can I say...I collected and collected and gosh I don't wanna...ugh.
Someone likes 1st gen ti10's.... For the ones I collect I like to have two - one to use if you want & one as backup in case that one breaks...
..i guess those refer to P. Gade, T. Hidayat and LCW?..any possible racket from LD (old Yonex) to complete the collection?..
Grr... you sold off the 2 rackets I wanted most and mentioned them in a single breathe... Grrr.... I'm never talking to you. Grr...
this brings up an interesting question: what are everyone's purpose for collecting rackets? i collect them because i know they will be rare and i enjoy owning rare and classic racket. i know some may fetch a hefty price years from now (just look at the sky high prices for AT700 and Ti10 1st gen) but personally that not my reason. even if i have 10 brand new 1st gen AT700 with me today that will hardly pay for a family trip, and for sure won't let me retire. i need a Renoir or something for that to happen. because i am such a badminton lover, i enjoy being able to own a rarity or a piece of badminton history. i guess it is a little bit of a bragging rights too. imagine if i have a brand new Boron2? and with that, the ability to share with everyone my collection in 10, 20 yrs time.
Good question. I have no idea except I enjoy owning those rackets. The Mrs keep asking when I'll ever play with them which frankly I'll never. I get a few strokes when I first got them and then quickly cut the strings. They go into storage and never see the light until the next time I need to dig something out and will take some time to admire them. Maybe the real purpose is to provide the needed distraction whenever I need to dig through the storage area. Thankfully, rackets are not too expensive.
In time, it will be more expensive. Just look at company redundancies; they are furloughed to start with, then... ...like the Sage from Omaha says: I won't say I will never sell (shares at his B. Hathaway!)!
My purpose for collecting rackets (Ti10s) are as follows: I like black in a racket. Coincidently, it also suits my playing style. I like to own a piece of the racket that made history as the fastest smash by FHF in MD. As for bragging rights, well....maybe a little....
