Hello everyone, I saw two thread who speak grips of professional players : - A Lin Dan's grip - A Lee Chong Wei and Taufik Hidayat's grips So, I had an idea, we can make a thread to explain how the pros are putting their grip and what grip they use. We have already got Lin Dan, Lee Chong Wei and Taufik Hidayat's grip, why not do the same for others? : - Koo Kien Keat - Tan Boon Heong - Peter Gade - And many others Hoping you like it Koo&Tan
okay, let me start you off, as far as I can tell TBH just wraps a normal overgrip, starts with the sticky-tape and ends with the normal finishing tape, wraps it up the cone and then stops. Nothing special. KKK wraps a white overgrip and starts at the 'other end' like LCW, but leave a part 'hanging over the cone', maybe he even wraps 1-2 times around the buttcap before he starts gripping further down. Ends with the sticky tape like LCW, again, not so special. PG wraps a towelgrip up to the cone, maybe he put some tape on the buttcap to make it bigger, I can't tell. Now my question is, why does it matter? Find a way to grip your racket so you feel comfortable with it, how it looks or what the pro's do shouldn't really matter...
Because other people, including professionals, might have thought of something that will be of some benefit. It's just another way of asking for advice. Additionally, over the years the professionals will probably have been helped by coaches to find the best grip style/material etc. and it'd be nice for those who don't have direct access to international coaches to get some hints or new things to try etc.
And you can always try a method out, won't hurt you, if it isn't good you just move back to you're own grip.
Yes, but if you're not aware of that method in the first place then you have nothing to try, I think that's the point of this thread i.e. to learn about and then try new methods. For example, I had never thought of the LCW method for trapping the start of an overgrip under itself until I read about it
No I understand, but it won't hurt to try it anyways, cuz I think the LCW method looks more neat then the normal one.
Hmmm personally...I think what matters is that you find your racket comfortable to hold...as if you copy professionals but don’t find it nice then its just useless
If you start with the tapered end on the buttcap, you will need to cut and apply the sticker at the cone. If you end with the tapered end on the cone, you can skip the cutting and sticker process.
