The "punishment" when you lose a match during a training session is usually pushups. It is not to tire you but is actually to make you not treat the opponent as your friend and play at your best. The other advantage is that arms can be strengthened.

For most people, pushups are something to be avoided! Hence, people do everything they can to avoid pushups - they play better, more margin for error, more purposeful shots, tactically more aware.

    Thats my opinion :)

    Hi

Isn't it simply about paying penalties for losing, thereby equating losing with pain, and therefore trying to avoid it ?
I don't like it personally, it doesn't seem to work too well for my students, though I know a number of coaches (that I respect) that use it all the time.

Whatever works for you I guess

I prefer push ups for penalty,
Rather than turning around and getting your butt smashed at by the winners!

it depends on the motivational level of the students.

if they are all lazy asses who don't care if they lose or win, then they need an extra kick.

luckily those i have are good students.

i totally agree with visor, cuz getting smash at the butt by a birdie that's flying 200 km/h is a very painful thing...especially if u get smash at the same place twice...
