Why is it when my varsity playmate serves he always blows the inside of the shuttlecock? Does this put you in an advantage or just to make you look cool?
Nothing more than a habit. It will not affect the shuttle unless he is spitting lots of saliva in there.
I think that was a joke; however, to answer your question, to see if it will fly nicely in the 'air'.
There is no way of knowing. The blowing sounds like a habit to me. I don't think he will gain any advantage from doing it. Matt
Have you guys heard about humidifying shuttles to make them last longer? Maybe he is doing that last minute I do that (the blowing the shuttle) sometimes too but with warm slow air. I dunno if it works though Only the humidifying a day or 2 before
yep i guess is nervous tic also, i have a habit of touching the birdie with my forehead before i make a serve, it just make me feel more safe, i don't know why
I have done it but just randomly. I think its more of a nervous tic/habit. Like skipping over every line on the way to the goal posts. Or lacing thing up left to right.
It could bring him luck to serve over the net . Why not ask him to explain? My guess is he thinks it could bring him luck to serve over the net. .
is just the same as u kiss the football b4 u kick for a penalty. a superstitious way of pampering the birdie to bring good luck i do sometimes when craving for a point
To annoy the opponents by delaying the serve with his blowing. I got this before too and it disrupted my rhythm.
To disrupt player's rhythm . Hahaha... We now know how to disrupt your rhythm. My advice: Tell your opponent not to blow the shuttlecock anymore. I am sure he/she would be thrown into a rhythm not to his/her own liking. .
