    creaspieces,

Hopefully you will get lots of advice here.:) But note that there are already helpful threads on both the clear and the smash in the forum. You will be flooded with hits if you use the search function.
There are also lots of resources on the web. For example Youtube has many useful videos. Badmintonbible.com has lots of great information, too.

Of course the absolute best way to improve is to find a coach or mentor. Only they can watch and correct your technique.

Lastly, congratulate yourself that you are smart enough to seek improvement at 4 months into badminton, instead of years into bad habits. Best of luck.:)

First is to work on your basic technique on clear and smash: You can get it either by imitating good youtube badminton coaching videos or get some good players to coach you.

Second is to train your wrist, so that your forearm and wrist are strong and flexible(take a few weeks to months of continuous training to get there): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLlYpja1nRo

    (All credit to Paul)

Third will be your footwork: Getting into position at the right time(not too slow so that you are out of balance and certainly not too fast till you missed the shot). Rhythm is the key here. Players who give weak return despite know the basic technique well often have trouble with their footwork(i.e they can't get into a comfortable position to hit the shot in time). So always work on your footwork, even you are a pro player. See this:
    http://www.badmintoncentral.com/for...o-improve-your-game-not-racket-nor-your-smash.....

Shot selections will come later when you have master the above to a satisfactory level. Good luck and keep the passion going.

its ok :) here are some tips when practising the lift,

try to master the clear first.

it must be very high and only to the baseline:D

btw you do a clear only when you are late:D

    then the flick,

it must be high enough to prevent been block or intercepted.

this skill can be used to control but must be careful otherwise its suicidal:D

    then the push,

you must approach the net area and take the shot earlier :D

normally its down the line either to the baseline or

mid court (for doubles and boy, you must follow up after that):D

    enjoy:)

for the clear from the back court:

it should be easier unless your grip is wrong

or the timing, preparation, execution and follow through.

last but not least your footwork :)

where were you when you try to clear?

if you are late in retrieving your back court shots

naturally you will be clearing them most of the time

and this could become a bad habit

so a good footwork to the back court will help you to clear or even attack:)
