I can't help but wonder, what if this saga occurs in CHN under LYB's watch? What would Mr. Li do?
I may be wrong but I have a feeling LCW is trying to "influence" BAM to meet Misbun's demands. Why is LCW so demonstrably firm in building a brick wall around Misbun and "imposing" conditions that amounts to a challenge to BAM's authority? If BAM were to cave in it could mean its collapse as other coaches will start to question "why Misbun, not us?" and will bring BAM into disrepute for being double standard favouring Prima Donas at the expense of the national interest.
I feel the best solution is to bite the bullet and let Misbun and LCW if he so chooses go.
BTW, why is LCW giving people the impression that he is still incapable of being No. 1 without Misbun? Now what happens to LCW should Misbun be not be around? Isn't he a man onto to himself who cannot function without his mentor?

Hmmmm will have to see the outcome of this.
This is what I fear if BAM wants to show who is 'boss'.

If BAM decides on the INA model, i.e. allow players like TH to turn professional and yet eligible to represent INA in SS and international tournaments, then LCW's livelihood will not be affected. Of course TH is special and has powerful supporters and admirers. Can we say the same of LCW?

If BAM acts like LYB, then both MS and LCW will have no chance to survive as well as they did in the past, I'm afraid.

I think LCW can go independent, even without MS, provided he has good sparring partners. The recent SS Masters Final has proven that he can beat all his opponents (when LD is not present) even without MS by his side.

At a glance, only LCW, KKK/TBH are successful among the players in BAM stable. Their coaches are Misbun & Rexy although BAM has many other coaches.

If BAM had started the KPI a few years ago, certainly the 2 coaches would have achieved the KPI or beyond

It is unfortunate that LCW is born same era as LD. LD is a great player of all time, so far. If LCW is not same era as LD, he would have won more touranments.

At this point, whoever is LCW's coach, his playing style will not change but cos he is already 28 yo. LCW also knows only MIsbun successfully brought him to the stage he is now & he will finish the final years of his career with this coach.

Other than different playing style, LD has incredible agility/fitness. He can dictate whether want to win or not(sound like some LD fans, lol). Whether want to take part in tournament or not.

China pula menjamin masa depan atletnya.
China also guarantees their players future, the one aspect (different from democratic) that a commuist/socialist country has

Therefore, players like LCW will try to maximize income while he is still able. After LCW retires, their future is less taken care of (by government). Except when sick YAKEB will give assistance.

Our players train full time & can be considered as prof. THey are managed by their association or NSC in terms of entry in tournaments, etc.

Sports association who are governed by reps from state association sometimes do not change with the times. Some policy makers themselves have never produced international level players. They make decision according to their limited experience. Without exposure to new situations, sometimes decisions made are not in line with new developments (in sport)

By right, BAM should treat Misbun, LCW, Rexy, KK/TBH as different from other coaches & players because they have brought success to BAM & country. In this situation it's evident that BAM or certain officials cannot differentiate between managing successful players & non/not yet successful players.

Walaupun niat mereka baik tetapi cara mereka melaksanakan dasar kadang kala kurang tepat.
This is basic HR management that sometimes is overlooked. Sports Ministry needs to set up a unit to manage professionalism in sports. Associations dont have the ability cos they are voluntary.

My apologies for saying so but we can find a president or official easier than player or coach who are successful (hahahaha) LCW , KKK/TBH are talents that are rare to come by.

As with Nicol David, Azzizul Hasni, etc, & future althetes. So, the effort to solve the BAM-Msibun issue needs to be handled carefully.I support the Sports Minister's effort to solve it in win-win situation as quick as possible

No not double standard. no where near apples and oranges

1 has contributed much while another has only 'recieved'

1 had the leverage to negotiate, the other clearly did not

1 has been up front about their intention... the other was.....

Shabery hopes for a win-win situation in Misbun’s episode
    By RAJES PAUL
KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek understands the feelings of an aggrieved Misbun Sidek. And he is also well aware of the constraints of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).
On the agenda of the BAM exco meeting tomorrow is Misbun’s decision to quit as a national coach. He submitted his resignation letter via email on Dec 31 via email.
And Shabery hopes that BAM will re-look into Misbun’s grouses in an open manner and a win-win situation will come out of it.
Shabery drew this conclusion a day after meeting Misbun and the BAM president, Datuk Seri Nadzmi Mohd Salleh, together on Sunday night.
The meeting at a undisclosed place was also attended by the National Sports Council (NSC) director general, Datuk Zolkples Embong.
Shabery said that the discussion was a positive and constructive one.
“Misbun spoke openly to Nadzmi on the reasons for his shocking resignation. He was hurt because his perception on the technical aspect and training system were misunderstood. He spoke clearly to Nadzmi about all these,” he said.
“Misbun also said that he had no ulterior motive. He has no plan to start a new professional outfit or had any plan to tie up with other sponsors.
“Nadzmi, on the other hand, highlighted the basic principles that the BAM stood by and on how decisions were made. Both have their ideologies and ways of doing things.
“Now, Nadzmi is clear on what had happened and he will present what Misbun said to the exco. The onus is on the BAM to decide whether to accept or reject Misbun’s resignation. And I hope they will come out with a win-win situation to stop this issue from snowballing into something very destructive.”
Shabery also said that it was important to understand the feelings of a coach, his instincts and the role of his family members.
“Misbun has contributed a lot to our sport. As an experienced coach, he may also have an instinct for future champions,” he said.
“The success of tennis player Serena Williams and golfer Michele Wie is because of strong support from their families. All these have to be taken into account.”
It is learnt that the last straw that drove Misbun to quit was the BAM’s decision to turn down his request for his son, Ramdan, to come under his charge.
Under the BAM’s new coaching and training structure, players aged 21 and above and those with great potential are placed in the elite squad.
The others are divided into the elite back-up and back-up, according to their level of maturity in their game and Ramdan was placed under the charge of Hendrawan.

In fact these 3 are very well rewarded, in particular LCW, far more than their coaches, other players, and everyone of the BAM officials. Do you know what percent of all the total cash rewards from sources other than from tournament winnings are pocketed by LCW? In fact the other players may be having 'red eye' disease from jealousy and the puny winnings they get when compared with LCW.

I am sure none of the players would be foolish enough to choose a profit-sharing plan to what they are being rewarded now. This is because no badminton association makes any profits and they are kept afloat from sponsorship money and government grants (which are actually bailouts).

It is quite obvious politics is getting into the act. The government wants to keep LCW happy and that means BAM had better find a solution (must be face-saving one) to Misbun's personal problem.

I think this is accurate in describing this gentleman who obviously did not help the situation by voicing his opinions.

    http://sports.sinchew-i.com/node/16215?tid=3

No idea how to translate his name: Zhang Ting Zhu?

title : If Misbun resigned because of his son, he is not prioritizing national interest

google translation with some not so minor editiing:

11 Alor Setar Kedah € AP) Kedah BA's President Zhang Ting Zhu said that if Misbun resigned because he is not being able to train his son, Ramdan Misbun, in the National Elite Team then he did not prioritize national interest.

He said the badminton head coach and Training ommunity has decided to place Ramdan as the reserve players and to be handed over to Indonesia's coach Hendrawan, rather than to his father, Misbun, the national elites coach, in order to have a more systematic system; and Ramdan Misbun is only ranked 5,6th in the reserve team and so his inclusion in the elite team might trigger discontent among other reserve players.

Self Claim: I am not the 'empty bottle' claimed by Chong Wei, who knows nothing about badminton

Zhang ting Zhu is also the vice president of BAM and a member of general coaching and training committee. He has been accused of being the cause behind the recent resignation of the Misbun. But he claimed that the Ramdan's stay in the reserve team, was decided of unanimously by the the committee. He was accused because he "stood out more and has a loud voice" during the meeting.

He said today along with vice president of the state BA Zhenrun Fu Yu, and BA secretary Wu, emphasized that BA did not force Misbun to turn in the resignation, but Misbun was not satisfied for not being able to train his son and thus resigned.

He also said: "In the past, the team training system was more loosely, which gives opportunity for Misbun to took his son off Hendrawan, to coach his son in private. But shortly after the new secretary Wang has taken the office, reorganization of the system was done, which leads to the displeasure and the resignation of Misbun."

Also regarding about Lee Chong Wei's hinting about the top management not knowing much about high-level badminton, Zhang tinh Zh said that if Chong Wei was refering to me, then he is wrong. Zhang ting Zhu was a born badminton players, in 1975, and had won the B level Kedah state the badminton championship, and not the one who could be simply labelled as "empty bottle".

    Ramdan: Prefer his father's training

The key figure behind the resignation of Misbun, Ramdan, also begin to speak yesterday, he said, when compared with other coaches, he prefers his father's training.

Ramdan wrote: "Actually, I do not mind other coaches taking over my training, but I grew up mostly followed my father, I feel more comfortable with him."

"Besides, I accept my father's training in the elite training team in just less than a year, and my world ranking has jumped from 400 to 187 now. So I believe in my father and if he can continue training me in the future I will be among the world-class players. "

    ************************************************** *************

Not wonder is so tiring working with this bunch of people. Just after the public have said that the Ramdam's issue is not the cause of his resignation. The Zhang Ting Zhu was trying to stir things up again by putting all the blame on Misbun. The act of exagerating the reason behind Misbun's resignation to divert public's attention is akin to an underbelt attack in martial art, freaking dirty. Now I can see why Misbun is not happy with this bunch of people. And the highlight of the year should go to this guy: If you won a championship in B level state competition then you are considered knowledgable in competitive badminton? Wow, I guess I will submit my application as an elite coach to BAM, maybe I have a chance if it was this Zhang Ting Zhu who interviewed me. LOLs.

    .
    It should read;

*1. BAM do not have to kowtow to LCW + Misbun. BAM have other things to concentrate on.

Also, about the 'other things', I meant such things like
    * Training/coaching newer recruits
    * Organising their BAM tournaments
    * Entering players for outside tournaments
    * Running other day-to-day activities
    * etc, etc......

Without exposure to new situations, sometimes decisions made are not in line with new developments (in sport)

LOLs.
Let us not cloud the real issue here, which is the treatment of Misbun's son that turned out to be the last straw that broke the camel's back, with more fog.
The decision to place his son under Hendrawan was unanimously made by the Training and Coaching Committee. Do you know who are the members of this committee? So why mislead by blaming one or two and not the whole committee? Remember it was a unanimous decision. Now if any unanimous decisions are not respected then Malaysia has a very, very serious problem.

I bet there will be a record number of marriages today, even though it is a weekday!

So something good should come out of it (BAM's decision).

Completely missing my point. But it's ok, as I know you have an extraordinary ability to read/quote one's post out of context. You are entitled to have your opinion anyway. *shrug*
