I always heard from others saying that Taufik used to comment officially that he will never play in Korea anymore due to the poor (ie. cheating) judgment calls. I never found a reliable source to confirm this anyhow. However, I did notice for the past few years that Taufik did indeed skipped Korea Opens. So why is Taufik taking part this year?

I think TH is playing for fun, he no longer the favorite so no pressure, see if he can still surprise and KO top player (he did it in WC10 going to final), the prize US1.2M, his career is winding down so might as well play as much as he can, fine tuning till OLY12 comes around, to promote his business, to play so his daughther can watch his famous daddy, to play for his country and countrymen,...maybe the real answer is TH loves badminton and difficult to retire.

Because BWF has made it mandatory for the top players to play the Elite Super Series events, I think

I think it's mainly about the fact that the players will be fined if they skip the Premier Series events.

Taufik doesnt mind anymore... because of a bigger incident involving Lin Dan, China Coaches, Lee Hyun Il, Li Mao and Korea Linesman.

BWF took the right action after that.

That's true. Remember that he has been back twice since, though, in 2004 and 2006.

That would be the rule permitting umpires to overrule line judges.

2011 Korea Open: Why is Taufik taking part this year?

    .
In previous years when Taufik played at the Korea Open, he was obligated to PBSI. Now, he is obligated to Yonex.

Probably, Yonex insisted that Taufik to participate this year, whereas in previous years, PBSI allowed him to be absent as he wished to.

He is playing to give all us BCers something to speculate about! :D
He is playing because his wife told him to go away somewhere and not be a nuisance at home. :D
He is playing because he misses his friend Lee something... :D
