The same thing happened at the finals of the HK Open 2010, if you watch the second game closely. They both know TH doesn't have the wheels to compete in the second game, and LCW makes sure of that by running him ragged in the first game. And they both want the crowd to get a little something for their money. So they entertain the crowd with some "demo" badminton. That IMO is a gracious thing to do. Nothing wrong with it.

TH does something like this regularly with newbie/lesser players at tournaments like the Canadian Open. He makes them work, does not push himself too hard but gives them a few "lessons" during the game. Its a nice thing to do, and very sporting, and good to watch. I remember having watched even LD do the same with some newbie/lesser players.

The truth is revealed in The Star of 24/1/2011.
LCW said, “Taufik is my good friend and I did slow down a little in the second game
.... but at this moment I am just so happy that I defeated him.”
TH said, “I think he gave me a chance in the second game.”
In jest, Taufik said: “Maybe he wanted to stay longer on the court to keep the fans happy.”
LCW is too generous to TH. He should not have allowed TH more than 5 points and that would still make the score respectable at 21-13.
But to go on until 17-18 was risky especially to a player like TH who could be so pumped up that he could go on to win the 2nd game and who knows, maybe, even the rubber.

Yea I agree too. It's okay if LD does this but LCW should never try this kind of thing against TH because their level is not so far apart.

When LCW said, “Taufik is my good friend and I did slow down a little in the second game......", he knew that his form (for this match) was too strong for TH.

LCW only said he slowed down. But when TH was getting closer with his score, LCW sped up again.

We see this in other sports, like in running, cycling, soccer, boxing, etc...

Curiously, some have criticised LCW for slowing down. Some even said that LCW acted unprofessionally.

To me, LCW's form was just too good at this 2011 Malaysia Open SS tournament. And the ending was as expected.

Yes, this time lcw's form was too good

How I wish he did play Lin Dan instead of Chen long

What do you see in his improvement, Chris?

If I am not wrong, it's in LCW's determination to win; While some others say that his 'mental strength' has improved.

    What about his underarm lift?

I think he is throwing more punches into it,

and his cross court smashes are faster

Most people have said that LCW is a timid person. But when Misbun decided to quit BAM, and LCW said that he will follow Misbun, suddenly we find that LCW is no longer a timid or 'soft' character who can't think for himself.

Do you guyz realize that LCW's form is good at the beginning of every year and dips in the middle of the year around June, July, August. And then his form goes up again at the year end.

It's been like this almost every year since LCW rose to the top of world badminton around 2005.

LCW does well early in the year with tournaments like MO, KO, AE then his form slips at mid-year and comes up again just in time for JO, HO and Super Series Masters Final.
It's no wonder he can't win tournaments held around June, July, August like World Championship, Olympic Games. There are exceptions of course where he won some SS tournaments like IO etc. but not the important ones.

Is it just me or do you guyz realize this too ?

    in the middle of the year,lcw won io 07,sgo 08,io 09,io 10
    beat lin dan in 2 set twice(sc 07,tc 08)
he didnt did well in ae except 2010
not significant enough to say it was a graph of form from my humble opinion
try to look for the point he get injured,i think it was a better indication

Thomas CUP 08 was in May. SC 07 was in 'early June' form not yet completely dipped.
Also TC and SC are sort of team competitions and it's individual tournaments that are usually used to measure someone's form.
I did say there were some tournament exceptions like Indonesia open where he plays well.

Anyway point noted, this trend can still support why he suffered unexpected defeats in WC and OG.

Middle of the year means Late June until End of August as far as LCW's form is concerned.

I was stating LCW's off form period from early June to early August.
Not really mid-year but close to it....

However January until start of June is 5 months and half (not 6 months)
and mid-August until end of December is 4 months and half.....(not 3 months)

Question Theory: LCW's form is good at the beginning and at the end of every year

I haven't paid attention to LCW's performances based on different months of a year before.

Now that you have mentioned it; we shall check on this theory from now onwards.

It just happened to look that way, that's all

Too many other factors to be considered to give this a true trend
