issit right for datuk to purposely throw away some points in a Final patch to a "close friend"?
summore he openly admit it in television as some forummer had highlighted.

to me, dis is most unprofessional as he shld give his best for evry shot and ensure the fans who paid de ticket get every sen worth.
instead, he made a farce of an important final match.

let's hope tournament referee will punish datuk for acting so unprofessionally.

Yes there is a law in BWF against a player for failure to use his or her best efforts. However, LCW could claim that he was actually using his best efforts to give face to TH, not the other way around. But this is a poor defence. The law is written against failure to use best efforts to win, not to lose points.
TH himself is also guilty on many occasions of giving up without trying (not using his best efforts).
For this to stick someone has to lodge a complaint with the BWF and then the world body will decide.

    LOL.

Does LCW or TH ever log on to BC Forums ?

I wonder how they would react to all you guyz' posts.

Serving for every point would be unbearable as they would have to think of what kind of criticism they might get later on in BC Forums for such actions in every SS tournament.

Why read so much into it, bottom line is Chog Wei won and the fan are happy!
I recall one year in Singapore Open, Chong Wei was way ahead of Kenneth Jonassen and lost focus hence lost the match. Chong Wei was heaviliy criticized by the press and rightly so. Playera are the one who has to face the consequence as the result of their action but in this case, no harm done so lets move on.

well in that case, many CHN players will be banned......and in some matches, INA players will be banned too.. even HH could be banned ( purposely losing many points to Marc) and few MAS players can be banned....

I agree with this. It's about time Hafiz Hashim was banned for purposely being so lazy on the court and losing points on purpose to opponents without even trying to win the match.

LOL... everyone's just wanna have a say and IMHO, it wasn't necessary to create a new thread just to voice a whiny opinion. The fellow just loves the attention so let's just have this shallow topic be buried.

    Cheers.

It seemed a bit silly for him to be "save face" to his buddy :)

But I don't see any problem with it.. He won in two and LCW played brilliantly :)

there is probably an unspoken code of honour amongst professional athletes in sports that you don't totally decimate your opponent even if you are able to

you can call it giving face or whatever

I cannot see what is wrong

    .
    We would expect tournament referee to punish a player for;

    1. Withdrawing from a match without a good reason
    2. Not turning up to play when scheduled
    3. Losing a match on purpose
    4. Rude behaviour to his/her opponent
    5. etc, etc, ......

But to punish a player who have played (when scheduled) and who have won (politely), I cannot see what is wrong.

    Agreed.

So, can you imagine if LCW was penalized as OP suggested for this perceived "point gifting",
while LD has a walk over and happily goes on his "honeymoon" after "pulling his back muscle"?
