Yes in China they don't tend to participate, but in the countries listed, the top players have to play to guarentee national team selection. Otherwise they can lose any funding they have or be kicked out of national team. At least that's what happens here...

Quite a funny coincidence that Liz Cann lost in an upset as I recently read a short article on how everyone else is looking for the scalp of national team members during Nationals and they really can only lose as winning is already expected.
With that in mind I couldn't help but glee a little reading she lost to a 15yr old, well done to Chloe .
