    congratulations - great acheivement

Here's a suggestion for the use of your prize money:

Set aside 1/2 and put into a savings or some other account. This will apply towards your tuitions or other education.

From the remaining half set aside roughly $25 to $40, and buy a nice little dinner (nothing fancy or expensive) for your parents and family. Pizza or fried chicken or even burgers will do, but you should give them something back.

Set aside another amount and repay any outstanding debts or other money owing. Offer to pay for some of the fees you may have encountered during the year for education to your parents. Most likely they will not accept it, but the gesture should be made.

Remaining money - use it on your racquet, whatever it may be. Enjoy it free of guilt!

Okay I agree with the first point, any windfall gain I put about half towards something sensible, ie savings/house/reducing debt/etc

Second bit, well it's a traditional Asian thing to do so I tend to do that too.

Third bit, no way ;P Especially with my parents and most other Asian parents I know would take it, no way they wouldn't ;)

Fourth bit, just buy the racquet ;) For what's going to be close to $200 US (assuming you save half) you should probably consider two racquets if you intend on competiting.

Yes, yes badrad we know you've crossed that critical child-parent threshold and are now firmly on the other side of the fence ;)

    If you are chinese

Hmm, I paid for my brother's 2ndary school education. I could have bought one of Mag's famous Porches.

My parents didn't ask for the money, I just said give the bill to me.

During University, I did in fact get some money for doing essays. I just took less money off my parents.

It would be a nice gesture to give it to your parents. You parents can then show off to their friends. It can be part of the 101+ reasons you know you are chinese....

    101. you know you are chinese when you give some of your prize money won in writing your essay to your parents and feel it is normal behaviour

    102. you know you are chinese when after receiving the money, your parents burst with pride telling all their relatives and friends about your prize and behaviour.

    103. you know you are chinese when your cousins go through hell when your unlces and aunties tell them "why can't you do something like that?"

    104. you know you are chinese when your cousins get very annoyed you did something like that and ignore you for a few months

    105. you know you are chinese when you and your cousins make up and its no big deal.:) However, your parents are still telling everybody about it 5+ years later:(

    :p :p

No no, the correct way of saying that is:

    107. You know you're Chinese when you bring back two tests, one with 80% and one is 92%. They scream at you for the 92%! :) "What the hell happened there!"

    It's always Cheung...

Ever since Cheung started the ABC, CBC thing a while back, anything related to Chinese has to be related to Cheung. :) How is the CBC, ABC link going? :)

That's strange... LOL. Shouldn't ASIANS be writing that? :D :D Now... I wanted to add something, but I forgot what. Oh yeah!

    108. You know you're chinese when you get 90% for a subject and the highest is 91%, they scream at you and when you get 99% for a subject and also the highest in class, they scream at you for losing that ONE mark!!! :D

Once I got 100% for math, and my dad said, what?! Not 101%?! LOL. Parents... ;)
