Just wonder why Singapore's Wong Peng Soon, then playing under Malaya in their first victorious Thomas Cup team and who won a number of AE's during his prime, is not included?
Wong Peng Soon was included in the Badminton Hall of Fame in 1999 . Loh ... Our favourite Wong Peng Soon was included in 1999. .
The record shows Eddy Choong as the greater champion Wong Peng Soon won the All England MS crown four times (1950, 1951, 1952 and 1955). So did Eddy Choong (1953, 1954, 1956 and 1957). But (with his brother David) Eddy Choong also won the All England MD crown three times (1951, 1952 and 1953). That gives Eddy Choong seven crowns at the All England Open - three more than Wong Peng Soon. (Eddy Choong was also the All England MS or MD runner-up on another five occasions!)
i think they should just include in the list anyone who has won the AE title at least 3 times. though i am impressed that Eddy managed to win so many singles and doubles crown, being dominant in both disciplines is tough!
Maybe they didn't decide on how many AEs won since there may be some who won less than 4 AEs. BTW for those who may not be aware, the prestigious AE was then the unofficial world championships since there were no other major tournaments during that period. Wong won the AE earlier and was a member of the first Malaya victorious Thomas Cup team. He was older than Eddy. I need to confirm with the records but I think Eddy lost to Wong in an AE (1955?) when the latter was much older then! But it is good to know that the achievements of both players were acknowledged by the Hall of Fame.
yup, agreed, they both deserve to be there. now, what about han jian, yang yang, xiong guo bao and zhao jianhua, but to name a few? i hope they are in the later batches not mentioned here.
Sudirman was the founder of the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) . Yes, unfortunately kwun 's link: http://www.intbadfed.org/HoF.htm is no longer available. Sudirman was the founder of the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI). It would be great if someone could reproduce that story of Sudirman: How, in 1957-8, Sudirman sold his Chevrolet to fund the Indonesia Thomas Cup team for their first ever TC victory. .
Yes yes, I really wanna read this story. I remember a couple months back there is an ex-PBSI player (hes name is in chinesse) who died (age about 80s) and wanted to wear PBSI suit when he died. How patriotism he is..
Both Tan Yee Khan and Ng Boon Bee, inducted into the Badminton Hall of Fame in the same year (1998), were very good in other sports too. Yee Khan represented Malaysia in golf. Boon Bee represented Malaysia in soccer for a few years and played in the Merdeka Tournament. He also represented his state Perak in rugby. Boon Bee was courted by two sports federations in Malaysia to drop one sport and concentrate on another. The then president of the FAM (Football Association of Malaysia), Malaysia's first prime minister Tungku Abdul Rahman, asked him to concentrate on football and to drop badminton. The then president of the Badminton Association of Malaysia, Tan Sri Khir Johari, asked Boon Bee to drop soccer and concentrate on badminton. Boon Bee chose badminton.
Finn Kobbero just passed away today . Finn Kobbero just passed away today. We shall have a special thread to pay tribute to his greatness: click here .
I'm not really sure about this, but I think I find a mirror page of this site kwun mentioned previously. It said www.intbadfed.org rite, it supposed to be a short of International Badminton Federation. I'll reconstruct the address, but since Google's bot said that this site is infected with malware, and the report also include that several web server is infected during mining news around there, I suspect there's someone screwing the website. You might want to try this (At Your Own Risk xD) I recommend someone with a computer to sacrifice to lol... Update... Apparently, one of the infected site is on the google's list xD... This is another address of intbadfed World Badminton
You might want to try this (At Your Own Risk xD) . K4mu1 ... Tried your 3 mentioned links: (1) www.intbadfed.org ................................................ says 'Server not found' (2) You might want to try this (At Your Own Risk xD). .. says 'The page cannot be found' (3) World Badminton .................................................. says 'The page cannot be found' .
Well... I've got different answer from google chrome T_T... Bout the world badminton, they're completely shut down xD... My bad maybe we should wait the infection done. I'll give the address of the warning from Chrome. Warning From Google Malware Information Page Since I'm using Google Chrome, which is connected to google and automated for their search engine, this information is automatically sent to me. I'm pretty sure about the page World Badminton, since it was containing some part of the first address given by kwun. That was one of the statement from google. Same address, I believe this is not a coincidence.
