Just yesterday after badminton practice for my school, I experienced a pain on my knee, on the right side. I also feel pain to the right of my knee cap as well. I used aspercreme to try to help ease the pain throughout the night, but I woke up in the middle of the night to have my knee burn and target the spots where it especially hurt. I already have an ongoing knee pain that I've had since last summer, but I only assumed it was because I have a weak knee. It didn't bother me too much during my tennis season and was fine up until badminton conditioning began. We practice 5 days a week (soon to be 6) and for 2 hours. We do 15-20 minute runs, and sometimes running laps within 15 minutes. There were times were my knee would hurt below the patella so I would stop running. We also do squats, wall sits, lunges, and bunny hops (which I am exempted from). I would feel fine during our exercises, and a few times would I feel minimal pain during that. However, after practice my knee would start to hurt and I resort to limping so that I wouldn't put too much pressure on my right knee. I consulted a doctor once and he told me to stretch and massage it (this was during my tennis season, however). I experience dull pains, and even some sharp ones, but they aren't always pinpointed in the same location; instead, they occur around the knee cap and sometimes underneath that. Recently I've experienced a constant pain on the right side of my knee. I'm wondering if my knee is hurting due to overuse because I'm only 17 years old and I know this isn't normal at my age
Sounds like it could be Patella Tendonitis, is it just below the knee cap ? And are you right handed ?
I have several areas where it hurts. Sometimes it's below, other times on the right of my knee cap, and also on the side of my knee. I'm left handed
yeah, well it does sound like the most likely problem is Patella Tendonitis, you can buy a Mueller Knee Support (about $15) and they will allow you to continue playing.
i have a knee brace http://www.google.com/products/cata...sult&ct=image&resnum=6&sqi=2&ved=0CEoQ8gIwBQ# but i don't know if braces necessarily help, at least in my experience
well i'm already wearing a knee brace. maybe it would be better for me to rest? i didn't think conditioning was so demanding
Ever injured or sprained that knee before? If so, then perhaps it could be an intra articular meniscal problem, in which case you'll need to seek specialist advice.
Um I've only felt pains varying from dull to sharp (which isn't often), but this could probably be the first where I'm feeling more pains.
Def overuse in my opinion, training 5/6 times a week is hard and if there is a slight weakness in knee, it wont improve. Ud need to take time off. As chaps said above a good support would help u a lot. The fact that it gets sore afterwards shows thats there is some damage in there and exercise is making it inflammed. Ur body is telling u to rest it but if you do exercise it, ice it for 10/15 mins and stretch the legs after for 10 mins. A good sports masseur should be able to help u.
I would stop playing for the time being. Dun let it cause further damage that might take long time to heal.
