Which one? I would try and get the BG 66 Maxima but im in the UK and it would be too hard to get them, not worth it just for strings. On the Yonex site they say tehe Nanogy 98's are "Great repulsion for high clear and defensive shots." And the BG80's "Its ultra-thin gauge gives players greater power for smash shots."
For me, the 98s offer more power than the 80s. As well, i didn't find the durability of the 98s all that bad. I went through 2 sets of 80s in a 6 week period while i think my 98s are still intact after 1 month of play. After i deplete my current supply of 80s, i will be switching over to 98s.
BG 80 is nice but too easily to break in the heated smashing game. NBG 98 is also nice play and so far more durable. It's 26 lbs strung for both. I like to test the new BG66 Ultimax.
I have not used either of these strings but surely the BG80 would be more durable since it is a 0.68mm string whereas the NBG 98 is a 0.66mm string?
I do believe there is a special coating on the 98s that makes it a bit more durable. As i said, i went through 2 sets of 80s in 6 weeks and my 98s have been on for over a month and it's still intact.
It needs more time but so far NBG 98 still good. One should personally test them both since playing style is personal. BG80 plays really nice but is not durable for my playing style. Breaking string in the middle of a intense game when playing great opponents is annoying. NGB 95 is the most durable and playing is not great. I have to cut it out. It's personal thing so do you own testing.
Nanogy 98 is very similar to BG 80 except it's a clear upgrade. NG98 has better repulsion and sound plus it is durable and holds tension better than the BG80.
Oh that, well, seen guys bringing wax, some tiny birthday candles,so I get the idea and I liked it, copied it. Irregardless if/when I string it with BG66/80/68ti or NG 98, I smother (smother is not the word I guess, but I do run the candle stick along the string lightly once) the string bed w birthday candle.
Used 98 and 80, and stick to 98 now. durability wise, they are VERY close, at the least for me. 98 has much better repulsion and softer.
...anyhow, I still stand by NBG98 being superior to BG80 (they feel dry, yes, as oppose to rough texture, that's why the aid of wax...but that only serves my purpose). I guess Yonex must have inputs and they see why some does things to their strings. It might not be the reason for the structural dynamics of the materials and coatings in its manufacturing process of NBG98. Is it pro stringers or players, I think definitely it is pro players.
Superior is relative. I prefer the feel of BG80 over any of the NBG precisely because it is more textured. The NBG just doesn't work for me, neither does any of the Ti strings. Right now, my favourite is the 66M and 66U -- good enough texture with superb repulsion.
Superiority issue? True...and it must be. I like the 66 Maxima and Ultima too in my other racquets but they break too easily. And needless to say, I still run a candle in about 90% of the string bed (which means of course, the waxing is not done before/while stringing but rather after it is strung) to make it a bit less dry (again, as oppose to rough). Also, tried silicone too but quite unlike running a little candle along the string bed. Cheers
